breast milk

Hopefully someone can answer this. I had my baby Friday and im nursing. Im noticing a very strange smell when he eats. Ive nursed 2 other babies previous and never noticed this b4. Is it possible my milks bad?? I dont understand. It looks normal and ive got a great supply. Im drinking tons of water and not eating foul smelling foods like onions or things like that. I remember what foods upset my last 2 so im staying away. Anyone else experiencing this?

I was going to say the EXACT same thing as stacey. My first thought was the cord before reading any other comments.
My son's cord smelled so rancid after a few days I couldn't stand it. Get a bit closer to it and take a whif...I bet that's what it is. It's basically rotting flesh so it's not very pleasant!

I agree its highly unlikely that its your milk as your milk cant go off, I'm wondering if it maybe his cord and when your feeding you may be getting little wifs of it, sometimes they can get a little smelly, they dont necessarily have an infection but they can smell abit off

Ive been paying really close attention and im thinking its not my milk or my nipples. Its almost as if its his breath. Is that possible?  I tried researching but i hate Google,  its useful but u get 200 different answers, some good and some that make u think everything is life threatening. I dont think he has thrush but im not a dr. There isn't any white bumps n his mouth. Im going to contact a lactation consultant but im thinking its not my milk anymore

Do your nipples feel normal? Or are they really sore/red? I know just having a babyy they are probably tender, but I remember having an infection in one breast and I thought it was just soreness, come to find out baby had thrush and had transfered it to me. I didn't have an abnormal smell (that I noticed, I never pumped so I'm not really sure). However if yeast is growing around the nipple it might cause the milk to smell bad. Just a thought, hope its nothing:)

I would call and talk to the lactation consultant at your dr's office or the hospital or local WIC office if you have one near by. They may be able to help a little more.
