chicken....

As stated in some of my earlier posts, I have a feeling that I could be pregnant - however my so called period came - except it was just a constant brown discharge with a bit of red at the end of 3-4 days.  I am basically too chicken to go out and buy a test...... however I know I should.....

Ok, so I just had a bit of very light brown discharge - nothing major, but enough that you notice a colour change on the tp.

The pill will not obscure pregnancy test results.

Well, if you're currently ON the pill, that will certainly obscure the test results. My suggestion would be to wait until your next expected period. The only problem with that solution is that if you ARE pregnant, it could affect the baby's development or even cause miscarriage. However, if you aren't pregnant and you go off the pill right now, your normal cycle will most likely be askew and you wouldn't necessarily be able to expect accurate hormone results. This option would also require you to abstain from sex until you are able to take the test. It's really a difficult situation! Please talk with your doctor. She too will probably suggest that you wait until your next period as well before taking any action, but at least you'll have an educated answer and know the course of action you need to take. Sorry I couldn't be more help! Just remember to carefully weigh your options.

according to my situation, when do you think I can test and get an accurate result??  Should I get an accurate result right away or should I wait it out until my next expected period??

One more thing... the urine pregnancy screen is not as specific as the serum test. Generally, it will detect if there is ANY hcg hormone present, but it is not 100% accurate 100% of the time. You have to allow for the margin of error! The serum test will give you a specific value (a number assigned to the amount of hcg present), but it sometimes takes longer for hcg to show up in your blood at a measurable level. Basically, urine is more sensitive, but serum is more accurate. I would request both tests at your next visit just in case. I would want to know for sure if I were you! :-) Good luck! Don't be nervous... it will all be fine, I'm sure.

Thanks!!  I have an appointment for next monday and will ask her to do some tests.  I thought it was odd that SHE (yes a female doctor) did not do a pregnancy test.  Maybe I should just pick up my panties - quit being a ***** and go buy a test..... but I am so nervous.

Did they not run a pregnancy screen when you were at the doctor's office? It seems strange to me that they would overlook that with all your symptoms, regardless of whether or not you were on the pill then. I'm 9 weeks pregnant and have experienced every single one of your symptoms in the last few weeks, so I would definitely look into a test! I'm also a medical laboratory technician and you should consider going back to the doc for a urine test... could be a UTI? Sounds odd, I know, but you'd be surprised the symptoms a urinary infection can cause!

here is what I had posted before...

"A month ago I woke up with very sore breasts.  I got really nauseous, had lots of burping, was constantly dry heaving, extreme fatigue and hungry every morning for 2 weeks.  I never usually eat breakfast (since I just graduated from University), however I could not last a morning without eating something and I am still like that.  I can't even make myself burp on a good day - however it is constant now.  I am starting to become light headed/dizzy when i really have to go to the bathroom (and can't seem to get it out).  I can't drink a glass of water without peeing a few times a 1/2 hour afterwards. After 2 weeks of that, my period finally came but it was a dark brown and only became red on day 4.

The following happened before I had my weird period... Doctor said it is probably an intestine issue - as it can cause those problems.  So I was off the pill for the week when I was on my period and the symptoms subsided.  I've been back on the pill for 1.5 weeks now and the symptoms are back.  I have a constant dull pain in my left pelvic region and in my right abdomen.......

Any ideas as to what is going on?  Doctor gave me stuff for the nausea and for the burping, but it doesn't seem to do a whole lot."

could the brown discharge (which started a day later than expected) be something to do with being pregnant?  I am currently on the pill....
