down syndrome??????

Im 24yrs old i will be 25 kin August im curently 19 weeks an 4days pregnant with my second child an its a girl. I have a little 5yrs old boy who is perfectly normal an healthy despite what tgey thought was gonna happen with him. My question is.... when we went in to find out what we were having the ultrasound showed a cyst on my baby girls brain an one on her heart. An they say that the one on the brain could cause a chromosome dissorder an the one on the heart cpuld cause down syndrome. They didn't seem to be concerned about these cyst bc there was really no other signs or symptoms that were present during the ultrasound. Now doqn syndrome does not run in my family nor does it in my husbands my question really is should we be worried or concerned about these cyst its my husbands first child an i would like to be ableto give him some sort of answers. What the chance or percentage of this happening to our daughter?  Bc at my appt they said that they don't really check up on these cyst  normall after the first check on them.

I do not think trisomy 21 is something passed from generation to generation. As far as I know it is just a fluke where you get a third chromosome on the 21 gene. Have you done the quad screen blood test? Also ask your dr if they do the materni 21 blood test which is supposed to be better. I have seen some posts here about the same soft markers on heart and brain and baby is healthy when born. I would try not to stress to much, and press your dr for further testing.

My sister in law is pregnant as well as me and her baby had a cyst on his brian well she went to a specialist at 29 weeks and the cyst was gone.  The doctor told her that it was nothing to worry about and it would probably go away on its own.  I'm not sure about the cyst on the heart, He didn't have one there.  I hope it all turns out for the best.

You're young &down syndrome occurs most often when the mother is much older. At least that's what my doctor told me. It's not impossible, but I'd say your chances of having a child with down syndrome would be really low. I know it's easier said than done, but try not to stress!

They yold my neice everytime she would go to get an ultrasound to be prepared becuse her baby was going to have down syndrome. She's 20 years old and had previously lost a daughter. They gave her the option to abort. She said no its all in the hands of god. She gave birth to a beautiful baby boy with NO DOWN SYNDROME. ")

Down syndrome is not something passed through genetics. Having someone or not having someone in your family with it doesn't have any influence on if you have a child with down syndrome. What causes DS is an extra 21st chromosome. If you're doctor really thinks that these cysts could mean baby has DS you could have an amniocentesis to know for certain but amniocentesis does come with some possible risks to the pregnancy.
