group B strep?

So I found out Wednesday that I have group B strep and will need antibiotics during labor but I forgot to ask my doctor if I can still do my early laboring at home or if I will need to go to the hospital as soon as I start having contractions. Have any of you already moms had this and what did your doctor tell you to do?

I agree with Alexandria.I would go as sok as labor starts I also have group b strep and my Dr isn't concerned unless I don't get antibitocs. Women r all carriers of group b strep its in our bodies just during pregnancy it comes out in certain women. I didn't have it with my first son but I have it now with my second.

Kati you have absolutely nothing to worry about. I had B strep with both My children. Just make sure you go to the doctor when labor begins. it's a good idea not to do the beginning part of labor at home because the baby might come sooner than you think and you want to make sure you get enough antibiotics before the baby is born. because you tested positive for the bacteria after the baby is born the doctors will probably keep you and your child in the hospital for about 2 days just to make sure everything is fine. don't worry for some hospitals it's protocol. mothers with B Strep have healthy babies all the time. B strep is more common than we think. No worries just sit back relax and enjoy the ride. Congratulations to you

Chevi93, but what if your water doesn't break on its own and you just have contractions, then what?

Glad you brought this up because I had planned on labouring at home until I couldnt take it anymore. I will definitely bring this up with my midwife at my next appointment in just over a week.

When you go into labor, you will call L&D just ask them. I think they will want you to have the antibiotics early in labor if possible to lessen the chances of baby getting sick. But, I am sure there is a point to where you need to be. That bing said I believe you will be able to labor at home for a while before needing to be at the hospital :)

Well I'm 37+6 so I think she'll be okay and I'm only a carrier because my mom had it when she delivered me but didn't know so she wasn't given antibiotics and I actually had a small infection when I was born. They said that she will be fine but I will just be given antibiotics. I just don't know when to go to the hospital.
