oh...the gas is from spending so much time on their backs, which is unavoidable, but it can be improved by keeping the head elevated from the body as well.
That sounds like you're feeding him the perfect amount. All babies are gassy. Try gas drops after each feeding if he seems uncomfortable, but as long as he is eliminating waste normally, don't worry about gas.
My son who is now 11 weeks was eating 4 oz at a time until he was about 8 weeks and he is now on 6 oz bottles! Keep us updated!
i say it could be something in your diet that is causing his gas...however, 4 oz seems reasonable for that age
He is mostly breast fed..and the doc keeps telling me he should be eating 15 mins on each side..haha..that is impossable.. i can barely get him to eat 15 mins on one side. and if i force him he use throws it up.. he also is eating every 2 hrs.
when i do use the formula i use the Similac soy formula for fussiness, and gas.. and he eats anywhere from 3-4 ounces..
I completely agree with JoyRenee...my son's digestive system was a mess for the first 5 weeks until I put him on soy. I used the Enfamil brand and it worked well for us...give it a try with some pre-mixed for a few days. Your pediatrician probably has free samples of it too, so ask when you're there.
The gas could be caused by the type of formula. It's harder for their immature digestive system to break down. I had my girls on Prosobee Lipil (soy-based) and they never had gas issues.
Anyway, 3-4 ounces is the norm for that age. I always let my girls eat when they wanted and however much they wanted since babies intuitively know when they are full. And my children are excellent table-eaters now.
Sounds like you're doing fine!!!
what kind of formula do you give him? btw my lil guy was eating thst much at that time too tc ~d
I am pretty sure I fed my ds that amount at 3-4 weeks. He would eat every 3 hours during the day 4-5 hours at night and each feeding was about 3-4 oz. So it seems about right?!?! I am no expert though! I think all babies are gassy. My ds would literally fart all day and night...which thankfully he did otherwise he would have been very fussy!
