While you are in the hospital/birthing center the nurses need to keep track of your oxygen levels especially during labor to make sure you're not in distress. They do that with a little monitor clipped to a fingertip that measures with a laser through your fingernail. Acrylic nails usually makes it impossible to get a good read. In order to keep them from having to rip one off while you're in labor I'd suggest not having them on when you go in.

I just kept mine short and I never hurt my baby with them, especially if your used to having them then you will be fine.

Acrylic nails don't scratch or cut they're smooth. As long as they aren't super long you're fine. I just say that because you don't want to accidently poke baby in the eye.

They can carry bacteria like MRSA and other things. Plan to have them super short so that way washing hands and keeping the under part clean is easier. But feel free to spend time on yourself. Its important to feel good during pregnancy

Girl. Go pamper yourself and get your nails done! It won't harm the baby. Just be aware that you could accidently scratch baby so I would be extra careful. I do my own nails and keep up with them. My natural nails are long and get mistaken for acrylic sometimes. Im due next month and I plan to keep my nails and just be careful when I am handling my baby.

I had my nails done for awhile after my son was first born. I can see the reasoning why they say not to. I always had mine super short and never had a problem

The reason nails are bad durin giving birth is that if anythin goes wrong they can see it with the color of ur natural nail for ex. A yellow red or purple and they can help if they cant see its harder to tell its nt because of the baby itself because if ur used to them then holdin ur baby while havin then wont be a problem :)

Mine are real, but they are really long, I haven't had a problem. My lo is 5wks old and yes, I have accidentally scratched her once but not even enough to leave a mark thankfully. If you have had them for a while you adjust to having them, if theyre new or havent had them before then youd probably tend to scratch them morw often I guess.

I have fake nails but I will be getting them removed before the baby just because the mainence is annoying and I don't want any germs or bacteria from the fake nails getting near my baby

Nails DO NOT hurt your baby. As long as they are filed smooth. So of the things people come up with are insane. The reason Midwives (like me) and OB's question it is the chemical smell in some salons. Just make sure the salon is well ventilated.

I baby sit a lot and always keep them short cause I use to grow them out and it scratched my nephew and the scratch got infected nails carry so much dirt even if you clean them regular. My advice keep them short don't cut then all the way off though

Baby skin is very delicate and gets scratched easy so if you can put off having nails a little longer then its better not to have them
