I used ovulation kits 3 times and conceived 2 of the 3 times. You do need to try to test the same time everyday. I usually did it around 1:00 and tried to have about 4 hours worth of pee in me.
I used cheap strips that I bought on the Internet and they did work. I think I got 25 ovulation kits plus 3 preg tests for $12. The only pain was you had to pee in a cup first. Once I got a positive, I would have sex that day and at least the 2 days after.
I would keep your legs up and your hips elevated for about 15 minutes after sex. All of this worked for me like a charm!
Good luck to you
i am on my second cycle ttc. i tried clear blue last month and answer ovulation kit this month. they are pricey, but do provide the extra support that i need. what i do is start testing the week around when i think i am going to ovulate to pin down the exact days. that may be harder for you if you are irregular. do you chart at all? i check my cervix and observe my mucous which sounds gross, but gives me the signs i need to know that it's almost time. the sticks detect your lutenizing hormone which is released at ovulation. the tests usually give you a 12 hour to 36 hour warning. i have been taking ovulex which has helped regulate my period (not sure how long you've been trying but i encourage you to check out the site). it also extends my ovulation period so i had a positive test for ovulation 4 days this cycle! my hubby said that we should let it just "happen naturally" but i think it would be 2015 before i got pg! he thinks i'm nuts for taking my temp every morning, charting, peeing on sticks, prodding my cervix.... it's hard work being a girl!
doggie style-i've heard that the best choice is a position where the penis is poking down. we usually do missionary with a pillow under my bum, or doggy style. i usually lay horizontal for 30 minutes afterwards--not sure if it makes a difference, but it can't hurt. i often get leakage if i jump up right away...
hope this helps! best of luck to you! :-)
