I havent got a pitbull as they are banned in the uk but i have a german shepherd who has become very protective of me! If im alone he wont let anyone near me. Like its been said.... any dog can be nasty, its the way it is raised not the the breed, i get very defensive of my dog as i hate people persecuting him just because of his breed!! I also have a mongrel, she is very nervous and would bite if she was scared, when people ask if they can stroke her i say no but u can stroke him, purely because he loves being stroked and she doesnt and i wont put her in a situation where she has to be scared. Ive worked in a dog shelter and had experience with pitbulls and they have always been loving and gentle.... id much rather have one than a jack russell!! But due to law here they were always put to sleep :(

I am surprised with posts ive read, I was expecting to see posts about how horrible Pitt bulls were but every response was a positive one and that is just awesome! I have owned Pitts as well and they have always been the best dogs and great with my kids

I agree a ton w the first response. I have a pit and she loves everyone but she just doesn't know her own strength so she may jump on a small child like my nephew but that can be corrected

I have 2 and they r the biggest babies.  They def bark and it sounds like they r mean but they r not at all.  Our family thinks we need to get rid if them cuz they will bite the baby...they don't have a clue what they r talking about.  It is how u raise them. Our families haven't even tried to get to know our dogs so they don't know them. Besides, they r 10 years old n sleep all day. Lol

The problem is pit bulls have had a bad press from bad owners and that follows through to good owners iv only ever seen bad pit bulls that try to attack my dog I think any dog can be a nightmare and any dog can be good as gold it's all about the training and the owner

I have a pit/black lab mix. She's the biggest baby. Scared of everything thinks she's a lap dog. I don't think it matters what breed of dog you have as long as it is ok with kids you're fine.

Same with my female pitbull, she loves kids, other animals & people but my hubby works night's & when he's not here to "protect me" she isglued to me & only leaves to check the windows for noises outside, I LOVE my pitbull, I wouldn't trade her for anything

people think pitbulls are  just so bad. but its not the breed its the owner. any dog will be mean if thats how u raise it. i have a pitbull now and hes protective of me an my belly too. whenever we go to bed he likes to sleep with his head on my stomach. i think hes gunna be great with the baby.!

I have a pit and that's just their human nature to be protective. The neighborhood children live him and pet him as we walk him everyday. He loves kids and would lick them to death if he could lol sometimes they don't know their own strength so sometimes they can get too excited but I just have him settle grabbing the scruff of his neck.
