pregnancy

i was told that my sister inlaw  baby has only  18 cromosomes  and it could have down syndrome is this true ? please answer

If the baby has Trisomy 18 it's not good at all. They should have her see a genetics counselor for further advice.

I couldn't do that. If something like that were to happen to me I would be asking every question there is. When I had my NT scan at 13 weeks, I continuously was asking the technician how everything looked if he was developing normally from what she could see. I asked questions the whole time. I hope she gets more answers. Keep me posted on what happens. Best of luck to you and your family.

yeah me either but  cant say much about  some people they  just dont  ask the right questions  to get what they need to know.

I hope so to. Every baby has 46 chromosomes. 23 from each parent. They should have told her more about what this means, I wouldn't have been able to leave without more answers.

THANKS ONE HOSPITAL TOLD HER  THE BABY HAD 16 SO THEY SENT HER TO TOLEDO HOSPITAL IN TOLEDO OHIO AND THEY TOLD HER THE BABY HAD 18 AND SHE WAS FINE  BUT I KNOW THAT STILL ISNT  GOOD RIGHT. I HOPE THEY R DOING SOMETHING FOR HER TOO

they did testing while she is still pregnant and said the baby only has 18 total im sure it was chromosomes but could be  the other thing.   they did testing where we live then they were like 16  so they sent her to a bigger hospital in toledo ohio and  it was 18.  thanks    guys if some can help me out.

Everyone has 46 chromosomes; a Down Syndrome child would have an extra chromosome making a total of 47 for them.

Do you mean 18 pairs, or 18 total.
