progesterone and miscarriage???

As most of you know i have a history of miscarriage, so naturally im worried. I go for another ultrasound on wednesday and im worried baby wont be ok. Since im on 50mg progesterone 2x per day if baby was to die would i still miscarry like normal? I just have this fear that i would not because of the progesterone.

I will be looking into getting the doppler here soon as long as all continues to go well. I know nothing can be done to change the outcome of the pregnancy if it was meant to miscarry. I just pray all goes well tomorrow!

I was put on 200mg progesterone suppositories until 13 weeks. My OB said that if the pregnancy was going to miscarry for other reasons that it would happen but that the progesterone may make it so that I wouldn't start bleeding but everybody is different. I have made it to 20 weeks and baby is fine! Squirming and kicking right now.

Generally depending where you live, there should be some stores... the 3d u/s sells them... but they were very pricey..

I bought my on Ebay for 50+shipping.. came to 75 because I live in Canada but shipping was cheap in the states..  I got a sonoline B 3Mhz one.. it works really well but in the early days it was a bit staticy but now is clear..

I dont know alot about them but I do know you will want to make sure you get a 3Mhz one not 2 because quality will be better and you are more likely to pick up a HB early on.. It can sometimes take a couple minutes to locate the baby when you first start and it is small.. the biggest issue i find is keeping the heartbeat because the baby swims away from the probe.. so sometimes it will fade briefly then come back

You really are not alone. You have experienced alot of lost in this process and it is difficult to not be worried/stressed when you want something so bad...

My first was a blighted ovum and I didnt know anything until12 weeks.. I ended up with a d&c because I showed no signs of passing anything.. It was really hard...

THis time, I didnt get a scan again until 12 weeks and was freaking out the whole time. Crying at my 8 week appointment because I had no symptoms... and felt great, etc...

Seeing the baby helped (I had gone to the emergency about back pain and they did a scan to be safe)..  But 2 weeks later when I was scheduled for the sizing ultrasound, i was still worried that something happen in that period...

I have a doppler now that I got around 15 weeks. I do not use it daily but every couple days because I still get worried.

I am now 19 weeks and can feel the baby, which helps a ton but still when I dont feel it for a while or the kicks are not as strong as the day before, I start to worry...

I cant relate to being on the progesterone or the multiple mc so I am imagine everything is so much harder..  I am just waiting this to relate to the fear you are experiencing and let you know you really are not alone..  I wish it went away but it doesnt but it does get better.. Though 100% if you buy a high quality doppler and its working for you, it will give you so much ease.

I hope things continue to go well with you and that you next scan will be amazing.

I honestly have no idea where baby is sitting at the moment. If all goes well tomorrow im going to look into buying one and hope it works. Ugh i hate being so worried and in fear of something being wrong. I know it is not good to stress but it is so hard! I also hate when people tell you well if it is meant to be everything will be fine. I really just want december to be here so i can have my baby as well.

I suppose it could.  I'm by no means small and I was able to get it loud and clear a day before 10 weeks.  My baby is right at the top of my uterus so that makes it easier to find.  If your placenta is low or towards the back it might be harder, no mater what your size.

I would love to have a doppler but im scared it wont work on me because im big. My doctor said she would try to pick up the hb at my next appointment which ill be 11 weeks. I cant remember when they were able to pick it up with my other pregnancy. Can my being over weight effect the doppler from picking up the hb?

With my missed mc i found out because i woke up bleeding one morning. So my body did start to pass it naturally but i did end up with an emergency d&c. I know my progesterone is a low dose but thats what i was given and since it rose doctor did not up it. Im also on 1mg folic acid, dha supplement, 325mg iron as well.

Don't up your dose or take anything else unless your doctor says you should.  Your progesterone rose quite a bit with your 100 mg's per day.

I took 100mg once a day and it was more than enough.

i want to start of by saying 50mg 2x a day is a very low dosage. most take about 200mg 2x a day to sustain a pregnancy (thats what im taking right now), i would consider increasing it.

Heaven forbid things are not ok on Wednesday, you would go off the progesterone and should miscarry as normal (i doubt it would stop it anyway).

I had 2 miscarriages and when i got pregnant the third time i went on baby aspirin and 400mg prometrium a day and everything went great. i was never tested for anything, and im not sure if you were either. i just found out im pregnant again so im doing the same thing.  I would recommend taking these as it covers many issues women have.

think positive thoughts!! (I know its hard)

Having a missed miscarriage is a different feeling from a full miscarriage.  You are in constant fear that the baby stopped developing.  I went in weekly with severe anxiety until I could hear the heartbeat on my doppler at home (about 10 weeks).  But still - even though I hear the heartbeat every day - I am scared it will happen again.  It isn't something that you can get over.  I keep hoping that I will be able to enjoy this pregnancy, but really I just want November to be here so he can be in my arms.

I was on progesterone when I had my missed miscarriage.  Some MMC eventually pass naturally, but some do not.  My doctor said because I was taking my progesterone I most likely would keep all the pregnancy symptoms and not pass the pregnancy.  He was right.  A few days after I stopped it I started to bleed.  Ended up having to have a D&C anyways.

Just know that you are not the only one scared to death...it's normal.  I can't tell you from personal experience that it will get better, because it really hasn't.  But there is a huge sigh of relief from me every morning I get to hear my little peanut.  Take it day by day.  The days are long but the weeks are going fast.  It's already the end of May!

I've had miscarriages as well. Two of them I was on progesterone. It doesn't stop a miscarriage but it doesn't effect it either. I still miscarried same way i had previous times. Best of luck tho! Hope you get good news at the u/s.

Hi,

I don't believe progesterone stops a miscarriage happening. It is there to help sustain a healthy pregnancy. I also take progesterone when pregnant (200mg 2x daily) and this is what the consultant at the hospital led us to believe.
