smoking

First of all if you have nasty things to say dont even read this. Just looking for support and answers. I know I've asked this before but didn't get very many responses. I've looked it up and got a LOT of different answers by women who actually have smoked throughout their pregnancy. I'm 25 weeks and still can't kick the habit. I've been a heacy smoker for 7 years but wheb I found out I was pregnant I cut down a lot. Instead of having a few full ones ill take hits off peoples throughtout the day so they equal to having about 2-3 a day. I feel incredibly guilty and its not that im not quitting cause I don't think its healthy for the bby if I had will power id never touch the nasty things again. But I'm addicted and can't help it. I'm just lookinh for answers from ladies who are in my boat and support.

My aunt started doing this water pipe treatment thing to quit smoking, seems to be doing well. Maybe it could help you girls too??

It's not easy..... I quit a year ago when I found out that I was pregnant (different pregnancy then my current). I tried to quit for years, I smoked for about 17 years. When I found out I was pregnant, luckily for me I just quit. Lately, I really want a cigarette, of course I'm not going to smoke but the urge is there. I wish you luck with this and remember that in the 70's and earlier doctors didn't warn pregnant women about any risks of smoking. My mother smoked throughout both her pregnancies. Doesn't make it right but there could be worse things you could be doing. At least you have cut back.

I quit the day I found out I was pregnant with both pregnancies. You need to look at what smoking during pregnancy.does to your baby..miscarriage..Still birth..lung problems..war infections..and to the above poster who said they smoked all their pregnancy and baby was fine..count yourself lucky..someone I.know smoked and went into preterm labour. Had her son at 26weeks and he's severely disabled to this day. My mum smoked on boh of her pregnancies I was ok but my brother stopped breathing and went to intensive care. Just cos you or someone you know smoked and their babies were ok there are still babies who die or are ill as kids etc because their mother's smoked during pregnancy..90% of cot death occurs in babies who's mother's smoked during pregnancy. Before I get accused of being nasty. I'm not. I'm stating facts that could save your babies life. And I was a smoker so I know its hard. Bit think.of your baby absorng those chemicals and additives from what you're smoking. Every cigarette you have cuts off the oxygen to your babies brain. If this info doesn't help you quit..I don't know what will. Good luck. It's only nine months. Your baby isn't chosing to smoke. Like I said I'm nbot being nasty. I am helping you to.want to quit. It honestly could be the difference of life or deqth.

I'm in the same boat. I'm 20 and I've smoked since I was 14. I am now 13 n a half weeks prego. I use to smoke a pack a day but have also cut back to maybe ten a day some days a few more some days a few less. It is very hard to quit smoking. I feel very guilty and I get the guilt trip from my fiance who also smokes but is worried about the baby and my parents telling me I need to quit and it should be easier since I know its affecting my baby. I have got to where sometimes it bothers me makes me nausous or even gives me horrible migrains. I wish I knew a healthy way for me and the baby to help me quit. I dnt want to smoke anymore just addicted and its my daily routine

I dnt smoke but have a friend who is pregnant and does and I went to her ob appt with her and her dr actually said going cold turkey can actually be just as harmfull if not more because of all the stress it will cause you and your body! So I think you cutting back to 2-3 a day is amazing and althoughits not the best forthe baby you could be doing alot worse things and the fact that you feel guilty about it shows you will be a great mother! All you can do is continue to try and cut back and not stress about it and maybe ask your inlaws and freinds to not smoke around you so its not as much of a temptation. Goodluck :)

I'm the exact same, smoked for 6years. I'm 24weeks and I've also cut down to around 3 a day but my partner smokes too and seeing him smoke makes me want to light up...whenever I see him do it though I use my lozenges or spray...they work but I think its the action of taking a drag on something! Well done for cutting down but I agree it is hard! Glad there's other girls in the same boat!

Great job cutting back!  Would those electronic cigs maybe help? Sometimes its just the need to have something in your hand. I used to smoke. I know its hard.

Thanks girls I really am trying. But my in laws and all my friends smoke. And when I'm by myself or with people that don't its easier for me not to but when I'm constantly around it I have to smoke a little bit. The smell, &actions are just too powerful. Like I said i would quit in a heartbeat bc I have my beautiful son growing inside me but its my brain that keeps me going.

Im a reformed smoker who happened to quit smoking roughly 6 months before I got pregnant. So I know first hand how tough it is to stop smoking!!!! I just wanna say good job cutting back and continue to work towards being smoke free. Im sure you already know the risks smoking can have on a baby, but it seems like you are really trying:) Im not sure if you tried the patch, gum, etc but you could always talk to your doc and see what is available for you to help you quit if you are interested in that. Just keep cutting back as much as you feel you can and go from there. Again, I know how hard it is to quit smoking, and I couldnt even imagine being pregnant and trying to quit. So props to you for at least cutting down :)
