Alot of people quit when they find out there pregnant.. its like there ultimate motivation.. Like everyone says would you blow smoke into your babies face after birth.. sounds stupid but really think about it and picture it. Everything you drink, eat, do effects the baby.. being pregnant should be the reason you quit.. good luck

I started smoking when I was 14 years old.. heavily and I am not proud of that.  I got pregnant last year, it was a total shock and I wasn't prepared for it at all.  I continued to smoke and one night I went to the bathroom and there was bright red blood, the next morning more blood and huge blood clots.  I lost my baby and I do blame it on the cigs but I don't know for sure if that's what it was but in my heart thats what I feel like.  I never forgave myself and I never will.  That baby is now my angel baby and I apologize to it every night.  I am now 34+2 and I quit smoking the day I found out I was pregnant.  Everything is healthy and right on track.  I wont even sit in the same room as a person smoking.  I told myself after I had that miscarriage that I will never ever let that happen again.. and I wont.  So please don't be like me don't screw up first and then decide to do the right thing.. it's not worth it.  It still hurts everyday.  If you want to smoke after baby is born then go right ahead ( not in the same room of course!).  I plan on having a cig after baby is born but only outside.  I haven't had a cig and so long and honestly my baby was my motivation to not smoke, so it was easy for me.

I smoked occasionally with my first, I was 16, I have been smoking a pack a day of Newport 100s since 13, its a horrible habbit but I couldn't stop, it does not reflect how much you do or don't care about your baby, I love my daughter with every ounce of my heart and its harder to quit than most people think, my daughter was born at 33 weeks with some problems due to being premature, but as with any pregnancy there are a million and one things that could have cause me to go into labor so early.. this time around I found it easier to quit for some reason, but I know that it can be hard.. be proud of yourself for cutting back so far and just take care of your self by taking your vitamins, moderated excersize and eating well and your baby will be fine.. good luck

None of them are perfectly healthy if you smoked. Just no problems THAT YOU KNOW OF YET!!! I quit for my baby, I wish my Mom would've quit for me.

If you are  a non smoker, you really shouldnt bother  putting ur 2 cents in here. She says she wants to quit. Plus, if u are a smoker & didnt lie to ur ob, he/she will say dont quit "cold turkey" since that is worse for mom & baby. The entire point in asking questions is not to get critized but to possibly get help, get support, & find out whats best for u and ur lil one.. Ok, im done freakin out now but seriously....

Not trying to be negative but how could you carry a baby for nine months and know that you just might be wasting your time because due to your actions your child may not even live. You are going to have to sacrifice more than cigs so you might as well start.

My cousin smoked with her baby during her whole pregnancy. She was born early and with a hole or a dead spot in her heart nd with severe respiratory problems and asthma.

I no a girl that smoked through both her pregnancies and both were still borns... cutting back is good but giving up is better for you and baby! If someone else was carrying your baby and smoked you would tell them to quit surely.... i smoked fags and weed all day long but when i got pregnant i gave up because if something did go wrong i would never be able to forgive myself... If you take the risk and your baby has complications or worse could you forgive yourself... all for a couple of fags a day? I hope you do the right thing for the both if you... good luck and well done for what you have already acheived :)

but like i said, i havent smoked in 10 weeks but i seriously want one so bad everyday (esp if im not feeling well)

I smoked about 5-7 cigarettes a day while pregnant with my daughter. She was born early, at 33 weeks and basically her entire first yr of life was sick...mostly ear infections. Shes 4 now & average size of a six yr old & never gets sick anymore. My hubby & i do not smoke in the house  or around her at all so thats prob y  shes so healthy now. I smoked at the beginninng of this pregnancy & finally quit about 10weeks ago. My dr told me if i couldnt quit to only allow myself 5 or less a day. He said the chances are much  better for  baby

No pregnant women should ever smoke while pregnant. Your harming your baby before it even has a chance at a healthy life. Every time i see a pregnant person smoking everyone around them including myself is looking at them with pure disgust. If you cant handle quiting smoking then don't get pregnant. Simple.

My bfs ex smoked through her pregnancy and their little guy has asthma, and lung problems, he is always sick, almost constantly..not sure if this has to do with her smoking but I also know people who smoked and their kids are perfectly fine..some things just happen no matter what you do or don't do ..I haven't smoked for over a year but if I still did i think I would quit just to lessen the risks..to each their own

I wasn't trying to be a *****, and actually I do know what its like, I've been smoking for years and am quite aware that it is an addiction. But when I found out I was pregnant and was told about the problems it could cause for my child, I decided it wasn't worth the risk. And not just cigarettes either, I was smoking pot daily as well. Yes its hard to quit, but I'm just saying why take the risk. Fortunately it is your choice. But yes I agree that cutting back to 3 cigarettes a day is a really good start and yes you should be proud of that. Good luck to you.

Miley, I am very proud of you for.cutting back. Smoking, for those of you who don't know, is actually harder to quit than heroin. Yes it can cause complications, but unfortunately, as with cancer, and most other diseases and health problems, they don't discriminate. You could go your whole pregnancy and do everything perfect and still lose your child. That being said, shame on those of you who were lecturing. It may have been out of the caring of your heart, but she needs our support, not our criticism. Miley, the only reason I was able to quit is because the smell started making me sick. Yes if you can quit that's great, but if you can't at least you cut back. You should be proud. Unfortunately this is also a public forum, so I am sure you realized there would be some criticism. Try not to take it too much to heart, you don't need the stress. Plus, telling someone with an addiction that they should quit, shaming them, and lecturing them isn't going to do anything to help. Good luck Miley. There is no gaurantee everything will be perfect whether you smoke or not. Just try to relax and take care of yourself and dont stress. My mom smoked with both,my brother and I, and we had bo complications, we have no breathing problems, and have had no adverse health effects.
