smoking

What are the reasons to not smoke during a pregnancy. And how many have been proven? Just curious.

One very respectful pediatrician excplained that babies might be born perfectly fine but later , after few years , they become very agressive and whatnot, due to parents smoking, during and after pregnancy, as well as being in surroundings of smokers....
Sorry about the grammer, english is my second language :)

There have been hundreds of studies to prove all the terrible effects smoking had on the unborn baby. Low birth weight,  increased risk of miscarriage to name just two. If you measure babies heart beat before and after smoking you can see that it raises their heart rate. Same as it does the adult who is smoking. Imagine holding a cigarette to a brand new baby's mouth,  would you do it? ...... no.  (Speaking as a mother who gave up smoking 6 years ago when I found out I was pregnant)

@kdsm12 that was not aimed at you that was aimed at another person :)))....@renaroo42 "you say quitting is not that hard, and your sick of people saying they cant quit"...just because you did doesn't mean everyone is like you that is naive to think that. im not an idiot I know smoking is bad. but just because you were able to quit doesn't mean everyone else will so easily. your post sounds very judgmental for people who are having a hard time and struggling to quit. @kdsm12 my mum smoked and she had 5healthy babies. im not saying its right. im saying people smoke and have healthy babies. :))) all the best for you. :)))

I agree with Renaroo, soon as I got the positive sign, I quit. I also don't want to start bck, doesn't make sense. I even said I wasn't gonna start smoking marijuana again & if I go out, I'd only limit myself to one drink. I didn't see any of those things as addiction, so I'd rather leave them ina past.

Your not only risking low birth weight, premature birth, and possible miscarriage but your also risking your baby having lung issues like assthma. Not just as a baby but also growing up. If smoking were safe, im sure drs wouldnt advise you to quit. Even second hand smoke isnt good for a prego mom to be around.

I was a smoker before I got pregnant and the day I found out and looked at that pregnancy test I never smoked again. Yes, you will always have cravings, but I'm sorry I think its wrong for people to smoke while they are pregnant and even breastfeeding. I don't judge anyone, I understand what its like to want and need to have a cigarette. But honestly its not hard to quit, all you gotta do is think about your beautiful baby being healthy and that's all that you need. I'm sure someone is gonna get mad for my comment but I'm so sick of people saying they can't quit. If you honestly wanted to quit you could, smoking is really a mental habit. Ill be honest that if I wasn't pregnant I wouldn't have quit, I loved smoking. I'm not gonna start again after I have my baby I've already came so far so why start again. I know this doesn't help your post I just had to let this out. I'm sorry if I affend anyone, I am entitled to my opinion:)

My Aunt smoked heavily with both of her children-they are perfectly fine now, college graduates. I smoked till I found out I was prego with my first baby (8wks) and then quit, but cheated a couple times, and he's healthier than anyone i know. Pretty much everyone i know that has smoked while pregnant has had healthy babies. I'm not saying its right or wrong though. People do what they want at their own risk. I don't judge, cause I don't wanna be judged lol.

@texasbaby just wondering how do they know of it was caused by smokingand not something else. Thanks for commenting though just a curious mom. I've known a few people who smoked while pregnant and their baby was born healthy. Healthy weight and not premature.

Low birth weight... premature birth... vaginal bleeding.. I'm sure there's more and I'm assuming they've all been proven that's how they know smoking causes them.
