spanish/american baby boy names?

i am 19weeks pregnant so i know we got time, but we just found out it is a boy...my db wants to name him after himself (lucas)which i really dont want i like his name and all but i dont want a junior in the house.anyways my db's family is hispanic and he wants a name that can be translated from an english name to a spanish name which i am having a very hard time finding any i like.was wondering if u guys could help me out with any ideas...much appreciated..

My husband is from Colombia and our problem is if we ever had a boy, he is h e l l bent on naming him after himself.  Well, I already have 5 kids and they all have biblical names.  My son is from a previous marriage.  He is Mark.  Then I have 4 daughters.  They are Sara (Spanish spelling), Rachel, Elizabeth, and Rebecca.  Can you imagine throwing a Sergio into the mix???  Ummm....no.  What a fight I would have on my hands.  But from the looks of it, he "can't" make boys :)

I just wish my husband's family could pronounce Spanish names.  My family does a good job of trying to pronounce something in English but in particular my MIL is the Master of Spanish Butchering and she probably will be pissed off if we picked out a name that sounds strange and has a hard time pronouncing it like "ignacio" or Javier, Santiago, Aurelio....  Its HARD!  But please don't name your kid Jesus in any way because that is the most butchered name EVER.
My Best Friend's husband he is Peruvian and his name is Hillary (pronounced EE-JA-RY but spelled Hillary in Spanish wich is the correct spelling) and he's called Hillary (Like Hillary Clinton) here in the US, I feel terrible for him.

im glad to know there are others in the same boat i will show him the list of names u guys did recommend and see what happens but i have a feeling he wont go for any of them...why is naming the baby the hardest part?

I'm american and my husband is mexican-american, so I'm in the same boat.  His name is Jesus, but he is already a JR and has no middle name - plus he doesn't want his kid to go through the butchering of his name like he did.  So if we have a boy we are either naming him Elijah Jesus or Diego Jesus.  There are other names I like, but he doesn't or vice versa.  It's hard because we don't want too white of a name or too spanish of a name.  If we have a girl its going to be Mikayla (I'm testing out different ways of spelling it) and he has no choice with that one because I have wanted to name my first daughter that since I was 8! LOL.  But he likes the name so it isn't a big deal.  But I agree wtih Mumita and those names.  Another problem I have is I want whatever my kids name is, to only have one pronunciation and that is hard with names that can go either way (ex. Benjamin I really like, but when we said it in the english way to my in-laws they immediatly pronounced the J like they usually do in spanish, as well as the -In as -EEN).  Sorry I can't be of more help, but I feel you on this one!

Well I have the same problem, I'm Latina and my Husband is American and my family will butcher a name in English and my Husband's family will butcher a Spanish name so...Here's my little list of easy to say names in both languages:

Tomas, Oliver, Alex, Ian, Elias, Omar, Victor, Gabriel, Nicolas, Hugo, Oscar, Hector, Diego
I can't think of anything else, otherwise my pick would be strange names.
