what are the "symptoms" of a miscarriage. can you have pregnancy symptoms that could also mean miscarriage?

I had 2 m/c last year.  One in April 07, i was 12weeks 1 day and then the next in August 07 I was 7weeks 1 day.  For my first one, I had no M/C symptoms at all.  Still felt totally pregnant & was so excited to hear the baby's heartbeat.  That was when my world shattered.  They could not find the heartbeat & confirmed my worst fear with a vaginal sonogram.  They think the baby stopped developing somewhere around the 7th or 8th week but I never had any symptoms of loss.  The second one again no symptoms but I demanded a early sono to be sure the baby was OK & again, was hit with the devastating news that all was not well at all.  I had to have a D&C with both M/C.  My heart goes out to all who have suffered a loss.  you are not alone

I miscarried at 5 weeks. My symptoms were extreme lower back pain (I almost could stand up straight), cramping in my lower abdomen and in my vagina. The entire time I was pregnant I would get periodic pulling feelings in my vagina (TMI). Then I bleed extremely heavy for two days with a lot of clots. I was also very dizzy and had the chills.

You could have a Blighted Ovum...I had one.
I started Spotting....went to the ER, they tested my blood, did a Vaginal Exam my Cervix was closed, my HCG was 11,901 I was around 11 or 12 weeks and they said I was fine. I went in for an u/s the next day and they couldn't see anything, my sac was empty. They told me I had a Blighted Ovum and would soon Miscarry. I went home and started to bleed more the next day...I finally miscarried and bled for about 5 days. It was such a horrible experience.

My m/s Symptoms were spotting, bleeding, cramping, back pain, headache and dizzyness.
Unless you're not as far along as you think, a Blighted Ovum would make sense...your HCG levels go up because your hormones...your body thinks you're still pregnant (mine went up for weeks when I had my BO) but yet there was nothing on the u/s. thats exactly what happened to me.
I hope thought that this isn't the case for you! Maybe wait a week or so and go back in for an u/s, amazing what a week or two can do. Good Luck!

It could simply be you ovulated later than normal....

My ob cares and i know that she does. It was the nurses that seemed concerned and thats whats scaring me.

I would say you may have ovulated late or something. Do you know the days you had sex? There may still be a chance. As long as the numbers are rising. If they continue to do so they might give you pills that help your hcg and progrestrone. I hate when doctors automatically tell you the worse. Did she seem concerned? Did she seem like she cared?

My miscarriage was HORRIBLE! I started spotting. A week later I went to my OB got an ultrasound. Everything was fine. I started bleeding heavier and brighter right off the U/S table. They said it was from the u/s probe. I went home. Next day same thing, a little crampy. Day after I was at work. Called the doc to tell them my symptoms had continued, and to see if it was normal. They told me to go home and lay down, take it easy. I was at home. The nurse called the check on me, no change. Two hours later cramps got more severe, I started bleeding heavier. I freaked out and called the nurse back and she told me to come in immediately. I freaked out, home alone. I decided to just drive myself and stop by my work to have my mom take me (she works with me). I got there and my boyfriend was already there with her, waiting for me. I had to be helped into the car because I was crying so hard and was in SO much pain I could barely walk. 10 minutes later we arrived. I was waiting in the imaging lobby. Still crying and trying to stay calm with the contractions (yeah they were contractions, came every couple minutes) Got to the u/s room and went to the changing room. They told me to empty my bladder everytime so I went to and the baby fell out with a huge gush of blood. And by the time I got to the table my uterus was empty.
I bled for 4 or 5 days after that with minimal cramping.
My hcg went back to zero in three weeks
Thats my experience. I pray you never have to go through that.

No thats ok....Here is the story i was thirteen days late on my period so i decided to get a test, I took 6 of them and all of them had a faint line stating pregnant. It was a kinda sorta answer so i called my ob and she said the next time she could see me was Feb. 1st... I could not wait that long so i went to a free pregnancy place near my house they excepted walk-ins so i went to get a second opinion and according to the first day of my last period (November 29th) I should have been at that point 6 weeks. so she offered an u/s so i agreed.  When on the screen she stated she couldnt see it and that was unusual to not see it by then and that it could be ectopic. So i got nervous and called my ob back and told her the possibilities. I knew for a fact i was not wrong on my period date. She said to come in for blood work so i did. and my levels were 76.6 three days later they were 194.6 she said they went up normal but for someone who was 4 weeks pregnant and that is a big difference. so they are questioning a miscarriage and im having lower back pain and my breasts are sore but im not sick!!

the only REAL symptoms of miscarriage that I know of are:

cramping (more than just normal period like)
bleeding
no fetal heart tones after a certain point

Other than that there really isn't a way to tell I don't think.  What has caused you to think miscarraige?

I've had two...the 1st one I had very little bright red spotting and went to the ER, the found not fetal heart tones...sent me to my doc the following week and it was confirmed no cardiac motion and I had a d & c...the baby measured 9 wks 2 days.  The 2nd I had mild spotting, went to ER..they didn't tell me much of anything...I waited, spotting stopped...the returned along with really bad cramps and heavy bleeding..after about 3 days I had passed everything on my own...2 weeks later my HCG was back to normal.
