umbilical cord strangulation

I just read an article about a family whose daughter was stillborn because she was strangled by her umbilical cord in the womb. I had heard that an umbilical cord wrapped around the baby's neck won't obstruct its airflow, but if the cord is wrapped around too tightly it can cut off blood to the brain and cause the baby to die that way.

I'm 35 weeks, and I realize I'm probably being paranoid, but I'm really nervous about it. My baby is so active. Has anybody talked to their OB about this?

Normally if this is going to happen its because you have an unusually long cord and they can usually see it on the ultrasound. I know a lady who lost many babies because she had long cords but as long as little one is moving all is well

As long as you feel your baby move once every few hours.. your fine! If you start freaking out about it.. eat something with sugar. And drink ice water. Good luck. Dont stress too much!
