umbillical cord around neck of the fetus

Hello,my name is Alex,my wife is 31 years old and pregnant of our first
baby;she is now pregnant around 30 weeks;today we've  done an
ecography 4D and doctor said the baby has the umbilical cord around the
neck, only once, and say that should not be any problem and do not worry, the
baby has good heart beat and all is fine,he says if the umbilical cord at
the delivery moment is still around neck usually at the delivery they
will move from there or cut it when delivering but we worry so much
about it.Is that normal that the baby has the cord around neck?should'nt be
any problems?Any advise please, can not stay with this worry,I would
like to make an eco every day and the doctor do not wanna do every day.I
listen to stories about the baby die because that, for deprivation of
oxigen at delivery or maybe still inside the uterus die also...The doctor
and midwife says us not worry more that all is normal..but impossibel
not worry...
sorry for my english but I am spanish.
Best regards and thanks very much
Alex

My second child had the cord around her neck at birth and everything turned out just fine.  I think it happens more often than we think.   Just trust that your doc is trained in these fields and they monitor the baby during delivery to prevent complications.   I know it's hard not to worry but just focus on the birth of a healthy baby.  Good luck.

I am so sorry you guys are going through this. I am not sure about the whole cord issue, but maybe you guys should seek a high risk OB, if you don't already have one. I hate to worry you more but one of the guys who works for my hubby. His wife delivered still born. They did not know that the umbilical cord had wrapped around the babies neck until the baby had already been dead for two weeks. That is a sad story to tell in your current situation. But to me it would seem that the umbilical cord around the babies neck is definitely a bad thing. Please ask about a high risk OB that deals specifically with these issues. They may recommend a c-section or early delivery or they may even require ultrasounds every week or every couple of weeks to monitor baby.

For your peace of mind, maybe you should invest in an at home fetal heart monitor, here is a site where you can rent one: http://www.babybeat.com/fetal-dopplers.html?gclid=CLmRk7yPspACFRDVsgodRhVGLQ

Also, here is a site that I found about umbilical cords around the babies neck: http://www.empoweredchildbirth.com/articles/birth/whatifs/cordneck.html

From what I read, see if they have an idea of whether the cord is short for delivery.

Hope this helps!
