when to pack bags?

ok so I'm now 23 weeks and wondering is it to early to pack my hospital bag and the babies diaper bags?  I know my OB said he thinks I'll make it to 32 weeks but I just don't know if I'm over achieving by trying to pack now.

I would pack your bag now and that way you can either add or change whatever you want. With both of my babies I packed once I found out their "sex"!  So far with this baby  I havent got to it..... I think about it everytime I look at his stuff but nothing is put up yet! I really need to get it done.....  I cant count on my DH either! But I am 22wks now so I have a few more weeks I would like to have it done by 30wks..... With twins I say go ahead and pack! Better safe that forgetful!!! lol

I am sooooo looking forward to it. When I had my last (3 yrs old, May 16) they had to move me to recovery. I had a spinal headache and it killed me. So I'm really looking forward to NOT having to travel down the hall.

loismwallace, I gave birth twice in a LDR (labor, delivery, recovery) suite and it is SO INCREDIBLY NICE! They are huge rooms, so lots of visitors can squeeze in. And you never have to leave your bed... well... unless you need to use the restroom!

My advice is, is that its never too early to pack your hospital bag. You never know when it will be needed, and i wouldnt trust my bf to bring in anything into hospital for me because he probably wouldnt have a clue what to bring me and more than likely he wouldnt know were everything was kept. Iam nearly 32 wks and i have had a bag packed since 13 1/2 wks when i was last hospitalized.

Ok! So now that I'm panicking since I have nothing but the slippers for my feet packed. I started doing some research online and thought I might share.

I read that you should pack two bags...One for labor & delivery and one bag for post-partum. Then you can leave the post-partum bag in the car until you get settled in your recovery room. Less stuff to carry when you change rooms.

I just found out recently that my hospital has remodeled and you now labor, deliver & recover all in one suite. I thought this might be useful for those hospitals that don't have that luxury. Oh my! I can't believe I haven't started packing.......Urgh!

i was 28 weeks when i started packing, but since you are having twins then i would say now is the perfect time to start packing, just to be on the safe side...lol almost every woman in my family was early, my sis was 1 month early with her last one and she didnt even get to bring anything the ambulance had to pick her up because noone was at home and she had her DD#3 10 MINUTES from the house...lol and its a good idea to do it now so later you can figure out what you still need to pack!

Ooh, I saw this really cute tourquoise and chocolate one at W.al-M.art the other day! It was less than $20. That'd be cute for the boy, or if it has enough room, for both of them!

Anything that will calm and reassure you---you should do! It's never too early. Go to the store and buy anything extra you put in the bag (like deodorant, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.) so that you can put the bag in your car.

Also, don't pack anything unnecessary. I always brought a ton with me only to use my toiletries and clothes. I was too excited to read/write and then too tired to do anything except hold my baby. So just bring clothes for you and the babies and toiletries. The hospital should take care of the rest!

AND... you'll get a lot of goodies in the hospital (diapers, wipes, bulb syringe, little baby hair brush, formula, etc.). So that means you'll be taking home a lot as well.

I always had my bag packed by 6 months but that's because I was so anxious to have every little thing ready and in it's place.

I'm 34 weeks now and struggle with that and when to take maternity leave. The only thing I have packed is my cozy slippers. I guess I need to get started on that... The baby dropped this weekend and while the contractions are BH, they have gotten more frequent and intense. I go to the Dr. Thurs for a growth sono and I hope he tells me I'm dialating. So far she has been measuring two weeks ahead.

I plan on packing after that appt. Thurs.  I'm going to make a list of items such as brush, cosmetics and such that I will need to pack last minute. I just don't know what to wear home from the hospital. I don't even have a diaper bag yet! Urgh!!! You just reminded me how ill prepared I really am.....Oh my gosh! I have to get on the ball.......lol I may be going into panic mode now........

With twins, you should do what makes you feel good.  I packed mine at about 32-35 weeks.  My hospital is only a few mins away also so we were in no rush.  My water broke at 3:00 in the morning and I had time to put makeup and out last mins things in my bed and still got to the hospital at 4:00.
We decided on a name last night, Hayden Elizabeth.....finally.

I normally wait til about 8 months or so...but with twins...it's never too early becuase you never know what will happen.  If it makes you feel better and more comfortable then go ahead and pack it now...

I think it all depends on how long you feel you'll make it.  I am 32 weeks and just decided on the outfits that i will be bring to the hospital with me.  I will be packing the bags probably this weekend.  But i don't think that i will make it to my due date, i am just praying he stays in there long enough for me to make it to my wedding LOL.
