Ok ladies I went to Wic office , I wanna breast feed my baby and I don't wanna tell them that I'm gona breast feed cuz I wanna get formula as well, so when I told her I want formula she said why not breast feed, wat can I say to get formula milk.
Also, if you're not planning on using formula much (it may be confusing to baby to switch back and forth) my doctor made sure I went home with formula from the hospital, and most hospitals will if you ask for it, just in case you need it. If you don't plan on using it much you can get a can of it, it's only like 15, and it will last for a while if you don't use it a whole lot. You have to remember wic gives you QUITE a bit of formula, if you don't need it all explain to them that you will be using both so you don't get all the formula, like spiket said, that someone else could use.
Yes, I don't understand why you would get formula if you don't need it. Seems like a waste of resources that another Mother could use.
I agree with mom2b, you can get both, plus a pump, you'll get more food for you to make sure you're eating healthy, milk, fruit, etc, and less formula, but like clysta said, make sure you're baby is established breastfeeding for 3-4 weeks before you introduce formula! Good luck!
Supplement is when u do both. And I told them I was supplementing and I got formula but I pumped I didn't breastfeed she didn't latch on too well.
I'm so glad you posted this cause i'm making my wic appt soon seeing as i'm 16w and I seriously did not know all this! Lol definitely know what to say now!
See its different where you live because where I live I plan to breastfeed but I also want formula and they give me a pump but the only thing is that they give me less formula.
Tell them that you are planning to breastfeed when your baby is born tell them that he didnt latch on or tell them that your having a hard time and had to give him formula too they will give you some formula
Supplement is where you breast feed and formula feed... the only thing is, it usually ends in either or. For instance, i am going to start with breast feeding but wic will also give me formula to give my baby. I plan on going back to work not too long after my baby is born so the formula will eventually be used but until then i plan on breast feeding.
Im going to wic and im breastfeeding plus getting formula. You tell them you want to breastfeeding but that you want formula as well because your going back to work or school or were ever. They wont tell you no. There are three packages you can choose from #1 is exclusively breastfeeding they dont give you formula but they give you more gallons of cow milk and more things. #2 you breastfeeding plus get 4 cans of formula and maybe 2gallons of milk and fruits. #3 no breastfeeding only formula which is 7cans a month and maybe only 1.5 gallons of milk and very little of things. If you get #3 you dont talk to a lactation counselor i would suggest you get #2. In texas thats how it works. In every wic they encourage you to breastfeed because thats what they want and its best. So just say you want both.
@diamond381 just tell them that you changed ur mind lol. I've probably been in my WIC office 3 times and everytime they ask me if I'm going 2 breastfeed. I'm like shouldn't u guys write this down or something? Lol
My wic office asked if i plan to breast feed, formula feed, or supplement feed. I told them supplement feed that way i can also get the formula just in case but i do plan to breast feed, i just want to know that if i am not producing enough milk or if she wont latch on, i have the formula for back up :)
I went today also. Made a mistake and said i will be breastfeeding lol. My moms like noooooo you shoulda said no! So what do i do now?
Whether or not you want to breastfeed is your choice. I know it's preferred but you don't have to. Tell them you're not comfortable with it. They asked me that also & I told them I preferred formula. If you feel you need a reason, tell them you take medication.
tell her that you dont feel comfortable with breastfeeding or like jrw93 said you just dont want to even though you would.
