1st trimester screening test?

Its been almost 7 years since my last child. Yesterday my doc. Offered me the 1st trimester screening test where they draw blood and screen for down syndrome and trisomy x syndrome. I don't remember doing this with my first two kids. I thought they only screen for that if you are over the age of 35(I'm 29)? Curious to know if anyone has had it done?

I think it relieved stress for me, I had it done as well. I completely agree with cwilliams. I would rather be prepared mentally!

I didn't do those tests with any of my pregnancies, they offered to me every pregnancy though and I'm only 26. Had my first baby at 21 and they still offered it to me back then.  I don't think I'll ever do them, just adds up the stress, I think.

My insurance covered them, but even if it hadn't, I still would have had them done. I say that not because I would have elected to abort, but for my peace of mind it would have been necessary. Yes, I'm sure it would have stressed me out if I knew something was wrong, but it would have also allowed me and my doctor to make the appropriate preparations before the baby's arrival, like making sure I'm at the correct hospital so the baby receives the best treatment possible. I can't imagine anything worse than thinking I'm giving birth to a perfectly healthy baby then having the doctors rip the baby from my arms and not be seen for lord knkknows how long as tests are being run.

I'm not doing any of the optional genetic tests or screens. I'm low risk for any of them.

Its now an option the offer... with my first son it was routine. Part of prenatal care. 14 years later preggo with my 2nd its now extra.  If insurance doesn't cover it can cost from $25 to $200. Most insurance cover it.
