Alcohol myths

What is the deal with alcohol? I have been told a million stories like, a glass of wine is fine, 2 light beers are fine, you will give your baby alcohol syndrome, drinking is better than smoking, you can drink until 6 months, etc. The list goes on and on. Are there any other thoughts or premises on alcohol that I haven't quite heard yet?

I would love to have a glass of red wine in labor! Lol But seriously,  I honestly believe that a small amount would be okay, heck in medieval times pregnant women drank diluted wine all the time... buuut as a personal precaution I have not had any alcohol.  I'm barely okay with the occasional caffeine.   My mil drank with my husband and he seems fine... a little stubborn, and indecisive, but fine.. Lol

I wouldn't. ..I'll wait for my pregnancy to be over with. My doctor told me that the information varies because studies that have been done are limited and also no one can tell you what a "safe" amount of alcohol is during pregnancy.  I've researched the topic myself and I haven't come across a study yet that has named an amount of alcohol that is safe for all pregnant women to drink with a 0% possibility of causing any damage to the baby. Most studies point out like KYTTENS did that the effects could be something slight like an attention disorder later in life or something more serious.

I get that ur just asking...not that u wantbto have a drink.so I believe its just up to the body and baby there are drug addicted moms that give birth to healthy kids.and mom that dont know they are pregnant and somke and drink again the babies are fine .im NOT one of em' but I have seen it in real life & on IDK I was pregnant show.its just that the worst scenario can happen so I think that is when the "myths"come in. If you normally drink or whatever  people try to test the limits & when they do & nothing happens to the baby they tell others what the " limits" are when indulging in drinks somke whatever ...and tada myths are born

As i have posted many times before talk to your professtional. But even one drink can and will do something to the child regardless of when you drink or what you drink. The baby is beening created and during the whole process the brain of the child is being formed and yes one drink can do something. It might be as small as slight memory issues or ADD or ADHD, or anything up to bipolar and terets. I am speaking from experence my sister my self and my brother are all afected differently but we are all classified as FASD.(Fetal Alcohol Sectrum Disorder) You should all be very carful on your options because most doctors dont know all the information about it and are still missinformed. But again it is your choice to do what you want with your self and your child but do please learn more a bout FASD and make up your mind for your self.

If I can't drink with out being concerned then I just don't drink. I drink for pleasure with friends and I can't see myself enjoying my drinks worried IF for any reason I could harm my child. I have about 9 weeks left and I can't wait to get back to my chill mode and have a beer or two!

It depends on the mom and doctor, how cautious they feel they should be and when.
For instance, I wouldn't be drinking until the third trimester, and not more than a few ounces a week at that point. I don't think it would be enough to negatively affect baby, and I'm also a very light drinker, so I would have no problem controlling my intake.
My son's father, however, has completely banned me from having any alcoholic drinks whatsoever until our baby is born. I think he's being overly cautious, but again, it's not any trouble for me.
Some moms drink in strict moderation, after speaking to their doctor, and other moms absolutely refuse to have even one sip the whole nine months, to protect their baby, regardless of what a doctor may say.

I think because there are so many variations on what people think is ok, I would err on the side of caution and not drink alcohol at all while pregnant. It might be ok, it might vary from person to person, but why risk it?

I admit I have a drinking problem but as soon as I found out I was preggo everything down the drain except for a sip of champagne at my wedding with my first and I felt incredibly guilty. Lots of stuff is ok in moderation like caffeine and certain fish but alcohol is a poison that dehydrates u and I'm fine with doing that to myself (until morning hits) but I damn sure wouldn't give a kid toddler or baby alcohol so y would I give my baby it thru my impatience?  Just my feelings on it

No, im just wondering about the variances of something that I would think would be as universal as "use a car seat".

I've heard a glass of wine is okay once in a while. That's what my friends doctor told her anyway. She drank a glass here and there and her daughter is just fine. However, I've chosen to not drink.at all. You may want to seek your doctors guidance if you're thinking of having a drink.
