Bedrest Survival Guide? Help please!

I was just released from the hospital today for going into preterm labor at 33 weeks. I had contractions 3 minutes apart, vaginal pressure as if baby was trying to push out, period like cramps, bad back pains and dilated 2 cm. They have been giving me nifedipine to minimize the contractions in hopes that she remains put for a few more weeks. I've been placed on strict bedrest,  and I do mean strict. I can take one shower a day, and only get up to go to the bathroom. No shopping, driving, lifting anything at all, no bending, exercise, sex (of course), no cooking, cleaning... nothing. So how did you momma's survive bedrest? I am in no way, shape or form used to being a couch potato, so this will be tough. Any advice tips or suggestions will be great. I'd love to hear your stories.

I was also on strict bed rest in 2 previous pregnancies. It is difficult but you will make it. I did most of the previous suggestions.. it's tough. Do you have friends to come and visit? Games are definitely helpful..but after a while you just get sick of everything.  Just try to take advantage of the rest while you can.  Try to keep baby in there as long as possible and hang in there.  I will keep you in my prayers!  @pearl.. I empathize with your situation but trust me you don't want to wish for strict bedrest. It is very difficult.. many times you end up on medications that make you feel awful and you worry endlessly about your baby. It isn't something to take lightly. I was on it with two pregnancies and one of my children ended up in nicu for 2weeks..now on my subsequent pregnancies I have to get an injection every week for 20 weeks to help prevent pre term. It is a serious situation. I hope you do find a way to get some rest though. Take care.

I've been on modified bed rest due to heavy bleeding and spotting 2 weeks ago, and I too am going crazy.  My body aches and even though I'm in bed or on the couch all the time I feel exhausted. As you said I would not wish this on anyone either except mine is not for preterm labor mine is due to threatened miscarriage.  Good luck to you

Thanks so much ladies! This really helps. I suppose I'll have enough time to finish all of the scrap booking projects that are just sitting around collecting dust. Thanks also for the prayers, definitely need those. I just pray that she arrives as close to full term as possible and can skip the nicu stay. And Pearl, it really does sound like you could use a much needed break (and massage) but I wouldn't wish this on anyone. Worrying about doing anything that could result in giving birth too early is really nerve wrecking. Maybay... I wish I could crochet! I would love to make her a blanket.

Visitors, watch movies, read books, maybe some sort of craft from bed/couch.  Rest now because not much rest w/ a newborn.  But I know what you mean.  I am active too so it's hard for me even when I get sick for a few days.  Praying for your little one to stay put a bit longer!!

If you have a laptop or can borrow one till you have your little one, find a game or two you would like to play. Facebook games are fun to pass the time with. Also kongregate.com has tons of fee to play games as well. Good luck  :-)

I forgot to mention that the hospital gave me the 2 steroid shots to help my baby girls lungs, since they weren't sure which way this was going to go. So far, no bleeding, no additional vaginal discharge and no water breakage. I'm praying that none of that happens any time soon.
