Birth Center

Does anyone have experience with them? How soon did you start having check ups there?

Thank you for the reply. So your check ups were done in a different office other than the actual birthing center? Good info to know. Honestly,I love the idea after hearing my aunt's experience at a MN hospital. Let's just say it wasn't so pleasant an experience.

I delivered my first at a birthing center and it looks like this one will be delivered there too (we had been considering a home birth but logistics and insurance denials are getting in the way). I know not all places have the same protocols and guidelines... but in my case I never went to a checkup there, I always just go for office visits with my midwives who deliver at that facility. I had a facility tour around 34 weeks when I went for childbirth classes but otherwise never set foot in the building until I was admitted in active labor. It was a great place to be - they were very respectful of my birth plan and of our privacy before and after the birth. Unlike many hospitals we were in the same room from admission until discharge - there weren't separate "delivery rooms" and "postpartum rooms" so we didn't have to move which was nice.
Every place is different though. Maybe your practitioner could help you out with more information about the place you'll deliver.
