Breast feeding and weight loss...

Does breast feeding really help you lose weight after bub is born? And if it does, is it only the weight you gained during pregnancy, or does it help with before weight as well?
Just curious :-)

I have lost almost 30 lbs in the 2.5 weeks since my little one has been born and have been eating quite often to keep myself able to produce and what not. I am not able to workout until 6 weeks because i had a c section, so i'm guessing the breastfeeding has helped in the loss. I did gain a lot and have a lot of water retention so that was part of it too but my little man is a big eater.

I will explain in Kilograms: first for nipples cracks and blisters use lanolin (pure is the best) always use after breastfeeding is normal that they crack or hurt, during a week or week and a half ,in the states you have this cream called A+D pedriatric ointmen, just with using the breast pump mines started to bleed as my son was in NICU i had to pump the bleeding was really  bad but i had to increase my milk supply so i kept doing it, after pumping i put A+D worked wonderful don't forget to wash before breastfeeding at 5 day i had no more bleeding nor blisters!!! Ok so here i go with my first son i was 52 kg before pregnant i went up to 96 kg 6 months later i wad back at 53... (is like saying i was 120 lbs and went up to 215 ) then the second time around i gained 36 kilograms and lost all the weight during the first 4 months, first make sure you are breastfeeding on demand wich means whenever your baby wants and wherever, no formula only breastmilk. Babies don't have schedules to eat and their stomach is the size of a ping pong ball so they need to eat more often, at around 4 months baby start regulate themselves and skip one or 2 takes a day and they start eating every 3 hours, some every 4/5 hours!!! Hope this helps. Thats how it worked for me, but as i say i do co-sleeping(saved my son life he had sleep apnea so sometimes he stopped breating and i had to change him position or put his neck in a good position) so at night breastfeeding was easier and i had a good rest!!!

It didn't make any difference with me. I only breastfed for a month and in that time I ate the extra calories I burnt through breastfeeding. I lost the weight without trying over 8mths so just give yourself time and it will come off naturally if it was from baby.

Every person is different. I lost my pregnancy weight with healthy eating and exercise, breast feeding didn't aid in my weight loss at all (and I breast fed my son for 16 months).

Yes! The longer you do it the more you will burn because they drink more as they get older which creates more of a demand for milk. I was down more than before I got pregnant.

u can also buy nipple shield at most pharmacies.  it's a rubber thing that goes over your nipple and part of the breast that puts a barrier between u and baby to prevent sores.. how ever if done properly you shouldn't get too sore. consult the hospital lactation consultants. or if u have time take some classes

I breast feed 13 months, and lost 60lbs. You burn 600 calories each day u nurse. If u are still gaining while nursing then u are eating way to many calor a day!

Thanks ladies for your replies :-)
I struggled with breastfeeding my last two. Only lasted 4 weeks with my first and only 2 weeks with my second. :-(
Really hoping to push through this time and give it a real good go. And I am kind of using that as a push for myself. I know it's best for bub, I dried up with my first, and couldn't stand the pain of blisters and cracking with my second.
What did you all use for nipple blisters and cracked nipples etc? Anything that really helped?

Everyone's different. Your body can acTually produce a hormone that makea you constantly hungry while breastfeeding. While others lose weight. For myself,  I lost weight. Like I said, every person and body is different
