Can you buy breast milk?

I'm pretty sure wet nurse is no longer a career ( let me know if I'm wrong), so what do you do if you want breast milk but don't have breasts? [*Asking for a friend].  Or, if you didn't actually give birth to your baby, and have no access to birth mother?

Me and a friend of mine had babies a day a part, I had quite a milk supply and her son had a lot of medical problems she nursed and tried to pump, but I would just keep hey supplied with breastmilk when she was low on her supply. Which some people found ki d of weird so we really didn't say anything g to any one about "his" milk supply.

I'm sure you can ask the hospital if they know...or would be able to hook you up with other mothers that have babies born about the same time as your own baby.

There are breast milk banks in some areas where you can get it. I have heard of donor communities a women who offer their surplus to mothers who can't breastfeed for whatever reasons. The second option seems sketchy to me-the milk banks screen & test all of the donations, the communities are on an honor system basis. I don't know if I trust everyone to be honest about their behaviors a especially if they are asking for money in exchange for the milk.

I think you can get this info through a WIC office

Eats on Feets
Human Milk for Human Babies

Those are the best places to start. I think there are Craigslist-type sites as well but these ones are regulated and scrupulous testing is done.

I've heard stories of local moms pooling together and.donating breast milk but I'm not sure how that would work..

They have milk banks but I don't think that you can just buy the milk. I believe it is for special cases like if a baby can't drink formula and the mother don't produce milk or there is no mother and I don't know if there everywhere. I wish I could have bought some for my last daughter. She is breastfeed and right after she was born I needed surgery and she had a week on formula. She had an awful rash from the formula and took 3 weeks to heal the rash.  If you find out where to buy some let me know for future reference..... good luck...

You can also find groups on Facebook.  I donated a lot of extra milk to a mom going through chemo who couldn't nurse but wanted to.

Check with your hospital. There are like, milk banks, you can order from. They are processed and tested, instead of privately... you don't know what your getting.

I have heard of it before. Actually there was a lady on a DB classifieds ad selling her milk, but there are actual sites with guarantees the quality of milk without drugs or anything bad that the Mom could have taken.
