Cervical length short

Hi i did an ultrasound on my 6 weeks & 5 days and they measured my cervical length to 2.8cm then i did my 2nd ultrasound yesterday its my 8 weeks and 6 days they measured my cervical length it went down to 2.3cm so my doctors advise for me is bedrest. My question is what is the normal length? And is there a posiblity it will go up if ill do the complete bedrest? Thanks

Ive had cramping and regular bh through my whole pregnancy. My.cervix.shortens because of an irritable uterus which basically just contracts untul my.cervix starts dialating. I was taken off work and put on restricted bedrest at 21 weeks and then at 30 weeks put on full bedrest and ive still been getting contractions. Just keep an eye on it and let ur doc know.when it is happening.

I would definitely take the bedrest seriously. Have u had any cramping? Ur cervix wont.get any longer in length but if it continues to shorten they can put in.a.clerage which is a stitch that keeps your cervix closed and they usually do it around 14 weeks so id ask ur doc and see what the plan is.

Average length is 3-4 centimeters in length. I wouldn't be too extremely concerned though, the length you have is still relatively good, they probably just want to be certain things will be fine by having you on bed rest, possibly because of the quick change in length. I went into preterm labor at 26 weeks and my cervical length was 6-8 mm which is .06 centimeters in length. That was shocking to find out, it's apparently extremely rare to have a cervix that short, even with the general incompetent cervix that most women with a shorter cervix are diagnosed with. I'm sure you're going to be fine, they've caught on at an early time, and putting you on bed rest at least until you're stable enough with no changes, that's the best thing for you. I was on bed rest for 2 months, it's probably the only reason why I'm still pregnant now (at 37 weeks, nobody ever thought I'd be able to make it to full term, but here I am, still fighting it lol). And with that also said, don't let them stress, worry, or upset you by telling you you won't make it to full term, and saying you'll definitely be preterm, they don't have any way of knowing that for certain, unless your water breaks or they just can't stop contractions and things to that effect. Otherwise, try to just remain calm. They had me so stressed and upset back then for nothing! You're going to be taken care of! Good luck to you!

It's my understanding that normal length is 4.  I have had several surgeries on my cervix and my midwife said that makes my cervical length a 2. (She checked at 20 weeks) Sorry I'm not much help.  Good luck!
