My doctor doesnt do the vaginal checks unless her patients want it done. Otherwise she doesnt see a need for them since they are uncomfortable and only creates anxiety. I'm 34 weeks and will see her every week now until I deliver. She may do one closer to the due date but otherwise its not necessary she said.

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) are common bacteria which are often found in the vagina, rectum or urinary bladder of women. they use a swab to test your vaginal and the rectum. to see if your carry the bacteria if positive they give you an antibiotic when you go into labor. if negative your fine. they will usually do the test between 35 and 37 weeks. they do vaginal checks around 36 weeks.

The group b is just a swab in front and back. They're checking for a bacteria. If you have it they'll give you and baby antibiotics in the hospital. I'm having that at my 35 week appointment tomorrow. My doctor doesn't check for dilation or effacing unless I go over. They don't even check at 40 weeks because you can be dilated for weeks and not go into labor. So she won't check until 41 weeks. But other doctors are different.
