Dr. wants to induce - I do NOT!

I'm just now reaching my due date (today) and already earlier this week the doctor I saw insisted on scheduling me for induction next Friday morning if baby girl isn't here by then. I told him point blank I am not comfortable with that and do not want to be induced until absolutely necessary. I thought there was no need for that until after week 42, anyway. What can I do?

Induction is awful abd it is risky... which is why you need constant fetal monitoring afterwards. I will have to this Thursday at 42 weeks. But him saying the placenta dwindles afyer 40 weeks is not true. Studies show that a normal and healthy pregnancy is 38-43 weeks.. based on studies from the 80s... we wouldn't know now because everyone is so quick to induce. The brain is still developing at 39 weeks and if our babies stay on longer maybe they are still developing? I despise ibduction but I may throw in the towel this coming thursday, at least I tried and waited well past my due date.

I would not induce either. I feel baby will stay as long as it needs to. I have been induced before and its awful. And it can put baby under stress too.

I agree with Daisygons.  Baby is healthy now,  why not induce? I had my first daughter at 41 weeks and she ended up pooping and inhaling meconium.  She almost didn't make it and stayed in the hospital for months.

That's what I asked, too!. I asked if these things happen because baby is "late" or because of actual complications and stress. I have only just today reached 40 weeks. Just seems to me like he jumped the gun.

Meconium in the fluid happens because baby is distressed, not because baby is overdue.

Fabulously_fabulous, I think you hit the nail right on the head. They are the type of medical professionals in that office to act that way. Too funny!

As far as I've been told everything has been fine with both baby girl and myself this entire pregnancy. They even sent me to high risk for the first two months just to "be absolutely sure" there were no problems. High Risk was baffled the entire time as to why I was ever there in the first place, but that situation was better safe than sorry.
Point being, all is well and there has been no need for concern or intervention of any sort, so why schedule an induction already? It's just frustrating and honestly the disregard for my preferences is frightfully alarming.

As soon as he told me he was going to call the hospital and schedule it (never asked or had any regard for my feelings or inquiries) I immediately told him I do not want to be induced unless absolutely necessary and asked why he thought it necessary at only the projected 41 week mark. He said (and I quote), "Because any pregnancy past 40 weeks runs a slight risk of the placenta dwindling or the baby pooping in the uterus, things like that."

I am 39+4 days today and at my last appointment my doctor mentioned,  I can get induced if I want to but I said no. I want the baby to be fully 40 weeks and then will wait couple more days or even a week and see how it goes. My doctor told me not to go over 42 weeks but he told me I can wait till 42 weeks. After 42 weeks there is a risk of your water getting low and placenta degradation which puts baby on high risk and uou don't want that to happen. Also for some of the moms wondering why not get induced at 39, induction works for some and not for others and they end up having to do and c section....which is what most of us try to avoid. Because it's a surgery and the healing process is longer and nd if you decide to have more babies chances are you and nd re going to have to do and nd re c section again....so

Oh cassy089 that's horrible, I'm sorry for your loss. My 2nd child was a twin and the twin didn't make it, but it was really early on in the pregnancy. I couldn't imagine what you are going though.

I'm 32 weeks and already know the doctor is inducing me at 37. I had surgery on my placenta because I had twins. One of the twins passed away and is still inside of me. Therefore he wants to make sure everything goes smoothly as possible. If I didn't have so many complications I would wait until past 40 weeks as well.

Why didn't you ask your doctor why he wanted it scheduled? Not trying to be rude just curious. Another question why is being induced a big deal?

Honestly if you are already 40 weeks +
And he might just being wanting to induce you to be on the safe side why wait the full 42 weeks a lot can. Happen during that time. Being induced isn't that bad
The important thing is you and your baby are 100% healthy
Good luck

Unless there is health problems with mom or baby or pregnancy is having issues, there is no reason to induce until 42 weeks. A due date is an educated guess not a guarantee to be by date or expiration on your pregnancy. Due dates can be up to two weeks plus off. If you are comfortable waiting then dont be bullied into induction. My last two were over my last was 42 plus weeks before I went into labor and the one before was 41 1/2 weeks.

As long as you're willing to go in for 2-3 nsts each week until then and baby seems fine, there's no reason to induce right away.

My due date is Monday and I'm scheduled to be induced the 10th (8 days past) the only real thing my Dr told me about being pregnant to long is that sometimes the placenta "gets tired" and stops working the way it should. As long as everything is OK with your baby don't let them force you into anything.

Maybe he wants to make sure he is off work in time to enjoy the weekend?   I doubt see why there would be a rush otherwise.

I'm due monday and still only 1cm dilated. I was so upset when I left the doctor today. They going to induce me on the 8th.

Yeh I'm with you, I don't get why I see so many people being induced early. I understand for medical reasons for mum, baby or both. But if everything is okay why induce?! In the UK, at our 40wk appointment, we get booked in for an induction for 41+5 and no sooner (obviously so long as all is well). I'm pretty sure you can refuse though. Don't be pressured into it if you're not comfortable. Good luck :)

I don't have any answers for you but I can sympathize. I am due on Sunday and only dilated 1cm. I really don't want to be induced either so I am praying that I go into labor before my appointment on Monday. Hopefully both our babies will come on our own.

They can't force you if the baby is ok still. Don't be bullied. And everywhere I've heard it's 42 weeks.
