Miagraine or blood pressure?

I've had a terrible pulsating headache on the left side for over 12hrs now that wont go with pain killers prescribed by ob. I'm also on medication for gestational hypertension. Is it possible to still get symptoms of high bp if its managed with meds? Or is this a migraine? Any suggestions or tips on how to get rid of it would be sooo appreciated, thanks.

I have suffered from migraines my whole life. The only thing that helped me is sitting on my kitchen counter with my hands and feet in hot water with a ice pack or frozen veggies on the back of my neck. It draws the blood to your extremedies calming migraine effects. I learned this while playing ice hockey in high school. If I ever feel a migraine coming on I do this & it stopps it in its tracks.

Thanks ladies. I have mild-moderate preeclamplsia but I'm only 18wks (had it severely with my first). My dr prescribed tramadol and said its the only safe thing I can take for my headaches. I just took my bp and its 130/102 so will see if it goes down.

The Birth defects haven't been proven or ruled out. But not a chance I'd take just in case.  Hope you feel better!

Also,  muscle relaxers ate not recommended for pregnant woman in general. As they have addictive qualities it can cause dangerous withdrawals for infants as well as possible birth defects

I'd let your provider know.  Just because you're on BP meds doesn't mean it's controlled. High BP and headaches can be a warning of pre eclampsia,  which you don't want to mess with. Better to get checked and make sure!

What pain medication were you prescribed? Just pain medication alone will usually not cure a migraine. A muscle relaxer and caffeine usually help way more than pain meds. I don't know about high bp... but my ob prescribed me Fioricet which is low dose Tylenol, a muscle relaxer, and a little caffeine and they cure my migraines in minutes. I had chronic migraines before, so I keep these just in case.
