Epidural question

Ok, so I've heard different stores about epidurals and I'm now scared. My friend who birth her child last year said when they gave her an epidural they did it wrong numbing her diaphragm making it impossible to breath and they had to put her on a oxygen mask. Then someone else I know said they did hers wrong causing her not able to stand for a months after delivery....  Can anyone share their experience?

The thing about epidurals is, u can't move when the anesthesiologist is doing it which is very hard when ur in active labor and contractions r coming strong and quick.  That's what happened to me and the Dr was very adamant about my staying still.  I moved and he said do not move unless u want get paralyzed.  It's such a delicate procedure.  So u can't always blame the Dr for not doing it right.  Eventually the Dr got the needle in and the epidural was going and I was good.  I healed from the procedure with very minor bruising at the site of injection and no after effects.  I plan on getting another epidural again and will stay absolutely still so it's done right.

I had an epidural with my son and it went perfect I had no problems my delivery went smooth after I had him I was able to walk an hour later it wasn't painful I just felt a prick of the skin numbing shot and didn't feel the epidural needle honestly the contractions hurt more than the epidural I plan on getting one this time too

I had one and I was numbness on both of my legs and could not even walk/stand for a few days. It was like I was paralyzed from my waist down. Slowly I started to get back my feeling and strength on both of my legs. Two weeks later and I still have week legs and numbness :/

Had one with my first and no problems. Would do it again in a heartbeat. With my third there was no time, he was born 20 minutes after we got to the hospital completely naturally. It went okay, but if I had my choice I would get an epidural every time. It doesn't block the pain completely, but it sure helps!

If an epidural scares you, there are plenty of other options that you can get threw the IV. I would talk to your doctor about them and maybe see which options you have. I have give completely natural birth twice, and will be doing the same thing with this baby (my third) in April. The only reason I didn't get an epidural is because I am that terrified of needles. The key is to find something to relax and not tense up when you have a contraction, they won't hurt as bad.

I had a horrible experience with my first last year it took them 4 tries to finally get one in after hitting nerve and blood vessels but I was only numb for like 10 min only on my right side then it moved up and I could breath but then it was gone after I had babu I got really really sick after I was discharged hubby had to rush me to the er two days later to find out I got a dirty epidural and contracted spinal meningitis almost died but I hear more positive stories then I do horror stories. Everyone will be different.

Ok I hate to share this but with my first I was almost 300lb I gains abot 100lb with him but anyway I got one and even being so huge they did a fantastic job. I have had three total I wish I did not have the last in because my labor was so short I should have just stuck it out. It was only two hours from start to Finnish

I just had my son a few days ago. I wasn't planning on an epidural but the pain got so bad I couldn't take it anymore. By the time I took the epidural I had been in active labor for 11 hours. I had no problems with mine and was glad I opted for it.

Do some research about the anesthesiologist at your hospital. A good one will do it right and everything will be fine. It does hurt though but only for a second.

You should be fine but it does happen I just had my daughter two weeks ago and when they did mine it didn't work and I could still feel the contractions and I ended up having a c-section but when they did my spinal tap that's where they messed up causing me to go numb in the face and I couldn't breathe it was scary.  Honestly the pain for me was so bad I would for sure get the epidural done again you will want it unless you can do it natural which I will definitely look up to you because holy crap are contractions painful
