FTM - Baby clothes, how much do I REALLY need?

Hi girls!
I've heard too many times from girlfriends that they end up buying too much and the baby end up not wearing everything and some items only once.
I want to be as smart and not spend money unnecessary. So I turn to you experts.

There is a big end of year sale online this weekend and my hubby and I plan to purchase the necessary things on sale.

And now to the difficult part,
What to buy?
Onsies? Tops? Socks?

How many?
Two? Five? Ten? More??

What sizes?
Like newborn sizes, how many would you need?

Please share your experience.
We think we are having a girl, so we might get a dress or two as well..

Best if you could give like a closet list,
example below,
Snuggie-Sleeping bag x1
Onsies Newborn size x3
Onsies 0-3months x7
Dress x2
Socks & mittens x5pair
Underwear x4

Thank you sooo much!!
I hope you all are feeling good! :)
xx

Thanks girls! This is really helpful.
I currently live in Australia, but might move to Singapore again.
We are from Sweden and we plan to visit our family and friends there when it is still winter there, so I need a bit of everything :)
We will have so much fun shopping. Can't wait!

Most babies tend to lose weight after they are born. My son was born 7lb 1 oz and 2 days later he was down to 6 lbs. He was in newborn stuff for probably a month. All depends on your size of baby though. My friend had her baby born at 9 lb and skipped newborn all together in clothes and diaper sizes.

I saw you want to buy up to size 9mths at least! Make sure you consider the weather too. Include sweather, pants, long sleeves, shirts.. Just have enough to get you through a week . If u see a specific outfit u luv just get it.

If your having a babyshower i would wait! Ya most babies only fit in newborn for like two weeks so no need than to buy so many outfits. I would include at least 7mittens/booties bc they get lost and protect baby from clawing themself. You would need at least two outfits a day and pjs bc of accidents.

This is my list, not sure if helpful but its what I found useful for my other 4 babies

Singlets- mixture of newborn and next size up-10
socks in small size- 5 pairs
onesies in newborn if having average 6-8 pd baby- 5
Pants cos I like top and bottoms- 3 or 4
tops long sleeve or short depending on season-4 or so
warm cardigan or jumper/jacket - 2 maybe at least. Im in aus so ill have about 4 or 5 cos it will still be cold when im due
baby wraps- 5
burp rags- at least 5

you could do without tops and bottoms if you just like onesies. My babies used to sick up on their clothes often so I also had bibs otherwise I was forever having to change their clothes.
Hope that helps:)

Worth to mention. Our families live far away abroad and we dont want to count on receiving newborn sizes from them.
Mmm but ok. Very few newborn onsies. Like 3?
And then 0-3months sizes? How many?
7?

I'd wait until most of the gifts have stopped coming then buy a couple of newborn, a couple of 0-3mths and then shop again when they're a little older,  wear a lot more outfits, and the season has changed. My little guy has a ton of outfits he outgrew before he could wear. Those first few months you really don't need much. Spend your money on blankets, bedding, wraps. Can't have enough of these and don't seem to get as many gifts of these.

people will give you lots of stuff - especially in small sizes
babies grow very quickly - so you can skip newborn and go to 0-3 months
someone will give you newborn sized stuff - it will be enough
you will end up having to change cloths during to day if diapers leak

Don't get a bunch of new born clothes. I have mostly newborn which are like 0-5lbs and my baby is already 5.5lbs at 36 weeks
