The breastfeeding and no period thing is a wives tale. I exclusively breastfed for just over a year, no pumping because he wanted milk straight from the source. I didn't get my period until he quit nursing though. It went right back to being as irregular as it's always been. Oh and I wasn't on any type of birth control either. Every woman is different. There is no norm, unfortunately
I exclusively breast feed and my post party's bleeding stopped 3 weeks after birth and my period came a week later (4 weeks after birth) it only lasted 4-5 days like a normal period and it came like clockwork every 28 days from then on even though I breastfeed and pumped to freeze extra for over a year. I was devastated as I looked forward to the no periods while breastfeeding but it never happened but at least my period was regular where as prior to birth it had been irregular for years
I started mine just 2 weeks shy of 8 months. Wasn't heavy or painful as was before pregnancy. Just moderate about 6 days
This is my third pregnancy and after the other 2 my period were heavier but shorter. 3 days + 1 of spotting. Hope is the same for you!
I am exclusively breast feeding and started yesterday at 8 months post partum. I am going to Hawaii in 9 days, so I'm hoping it is not much longer than normal as it is already twice as heavy as my usual.
If you strictly breastfeeding then it will take months. If not it can come roughly 30 says after birth.
If your on birth control that can effect it after my daughter when I finally did get my cycle it was crazy like 30 days sometimes but when the implant was removed it began to go back to normal
Thanks for your response! My son is 8 months old and I just started yesterday it has been extremely heavy. I've also heard it can last longer, which I'm hoping isn't my case because I am going to Hawaii in 9 days! My normal before was 2 days heavy 2 days light 1 day spotting.
Im pregnant with my third. With my first 2, my period started exactly 1 month after postpartum bleeding stopped. It lasted 5 days and was normal flow. My periods have always been 5 days long from there on. I hear some womens first period is a little longer because they havent had one in so long so their body takes a little longer to adjust back to normal. Take care.
