Formula for a year?

I'm planning on bottle feeding..pleaseyearoudgment, and I've heard to keep my baby on formula for a year. My mom put me on cows milk at 3 months old. I was and am perfectly fine. Is this a personal choice, or a necessary thing to keep my baby on formula for a year?

I kept mine on formula for a year but added milk around 11 months to get him use to the taste so it wouldn't be such a hard transition.

It's not that they can't process it it's the nutrients in formula they need. I'm pretty sure back in the day kids got cows milk and goat milk and whatever ppl could use/afford that couldn't lactate. And you can start weaning around 10 - 11 months of age via Dr's.

You can start rice cereal around 4 months but some sources say to wait 6 months. Baby food can be started after cereal. Generally they say start with veggies and then do fruits after you've tried a variety of veggies.  Also, wait a few days in between introducing a new food so you can determine if there is an allergy to one of the foods. Good luck to you :) and formula for the first year and then whole milk until 2

I'm just asking because it's what my mom did with me. And of course what her mom did with her. Just wondering when it all changed.

Thanks ladies. I understand that a baby will not get full nutrition from just cows milk, but can't I introduce foods too at 3 or 4 months?

You NEED to do formula or breastmilk! A BABY WELL NOT GET PROPER NUTRIENTS FROM JUST COWS MILK!

No judgment!  You. An only do what you can. I was never able to pump enough to make bottles, so i breastfed for the first 12 weeks, then when I went back to work she had formula when she was with others and breastmilk when she was with me. This lasted about 14 months. Then she started to use her teeth. Ouch! Lol its wonderful that you are reaching out. I'm pregnant for the second time. My first child is 11. Yikes!

No judgment, I was totally considering bottle feeding, thought breastfeeding would be awkward until I had my son, but it became the most natural and enjoyable experience you could ever have imagined.

Cows milk doesn't have near the nutrition baby needs and actually introducing cows milk that early can not only lead to malnutrition but kidney failure as well.   Formula is complete nutrition and needed for baby until a year old.

Necessary.. a baby cannot digest cows milk until around 12 mos. Their tummies are very sensitive and cows milk can cause lots of problems
