Glucose test?

Hey all,

I have that glucose test tomorrow, with the orange drink.
Can anyone tell me what they do exactly? I've heard you can be there up to 3 hours waiting, and that they'll take blood twice?
I absolutely hate needles so this is gonna suck. :(

For my 1 hour test they just had me drink the stuff and then drew my blood 1 hour later. If you fail you have to go back a second time for a 3 hour test. They had me just not eat anything sugary for 3 hours before.

Yes the first one I didn't have fast, and I don't have high bp or any of the gd symptoms or signs either they just did three hour instead of the one hr in the beginning because in high risk due to lupus and low platelets. It's not bad just ***** waiting but I  sure you'll be fine:-)

Well do you have a history with diabetes??? Or do you meet any of the higher risks for getting gestational diabetes??? I know I had 3 of the risk factors (I think out of 5)...

Chronic hyperyension prior to pregnancy (high blood pressure), family history of diabetes (both parents have it), and I was overweight before I got pregnant (not horribly)

another risk is if you had gestational diabetes in a past pregnancy- which I didn't in my last one

thanks mckaylas_momma, i actually just googled and saw that it's exactly what you said.
apparently a lot of women fail the one gour one though, then they make you take the 3 hour one and most women pass that even if they had a bad first test.
i would rather just do the 3 hour and get it over with, i feel like the 1 hour will be a waste of time unless i pass it!
has anyone ever refused the 1 hour?

The 1 hr tesr you get there they give you a sugary drink and you have to drink it within 5 min... they take your blood 1 hour later...

the 3hr test is done if you fail the 1st one... they take your blood a total of 4 times... you have to fast until the test and they take it for fasting levels... then you drink the drink within 5 minutes and every hour up until 3 they take your blood... if you fail 2 or more of those blood sugar levels you have gestational diabetes. .. I failed 2

I've had 2 different on/gyn's for 3  pregnancies (original one passed away) and I was always told I could go in an hour before my appt to start my test so I'm not there forever. Also first ob had me fast. This one said I could east protein foods prior to going in. Just water an hour before. But with both ob's they only drew blood once.

Just avoid carbs and sugars. Some docs tell u not to eat at all, but my doc said it was fine to eat. They had me drink the drink than wait an hour to draw my blood. I had my doc appt btwn drinking the drink & them drawing blood so it didn't seem long.

Thanks for all your replies but the doctor said I was allowed to eat which is so weird because I also heard most women fast?

If it's the one hr they take ur blood then u have 5 minutes to drink then at the end of the hr they draw blood again, if it's the three hour which I had to do twice this  pregnancy, u have to fast the night before they draw blood every hr for three hours and u drink again it ***** waiting there but I was so  .  Hungry and tired I just slept lol

I had to take the same test , they check your sugar level to see if it's high or low , you sit in the DOCTORS office for 2 hours .

Also, I forgot to add - What should I eat before I go so that my blood sugar isn't any higher than it needs to be?
