Is brown discharge and mild cramping normal in early pregnancy?

Hi,
I'm 5 and a half weeks pregnant. For the past 3 days I've been having mild cramping, today I have had brown discharge. No fresh red loss. Is this normal? Feeling anxious but don't want to pester the early pregnancy unit for something that may be normal.

I understand your feeling, but you have to try to remember that you did nothing to cause this. I'm so sorry for your loss no matter how early it is still a loss and you have the right to grieve.

Fresh red bleeding this morning. No longer feeling hopeful. Absolutely devastated. My husband is being amazing about it but I feel like I've failed some how.

Thank you. Cramping has got a lot worse and now have a pink/brown loss. Devastated that something might be wrong. Our local EPU isn't open on Saturdays but has a walk in on Sunday so will have to wait until then. So horrible feeling like there is nothing I can do.

I had the same at 7 weeks, its best to check asap with your midwife/doctor, its usually normal but it is always better to check

I wouldn't say it is normal but it happens to a fair amount of women.  If it turns bright red or you begin having painful cramps, give your doctor a call.  Hang in there.
