Itching during third trimester

I have been having following symptoms for past two weeks. Please suggest the cause and remedy for this.

Itching in legs and arms, without any rashes or hives
Itching gets very intense during night time
Cant sleep more than 4 hrs at night
I was asked to take Benadryl by nurse for relief from itching and to get sleep. Is it safe for baby.
I have tried using moisturizer and avoided hot water bath, but no relief

Is it a common symptom of pregnancy or is it something i should be worried about. Please suggest.

I got it many years ago..Just after high school I itched so bad at night couldn't sleep but a few hours.. took late night showers to help itching. went to the doctors many times for them to say it's allergies, stress and even took a bi-op of my skin etc. 6 months later my sister goes in and on the first visit says she has it..I freaking suffered all that time..my advice would be to just suggest it tothe doctor and ask if you can have the medicine...You can also tell by looking at your hands of there is unexplained scabs or see little grooves... I wouldn't want you to suffer like I did then maybe pass it on to the baby...

itching could be a symptom of something else...if the itching is mostly at night and that severe I would worry about scabbies... I've had it and its no fun.. didn't have a rash with it either....just a thought?
