I don't ever heat the meat up like they say to. Didnt with previous pregnancy either and both are healthy.
How does it taste after you heat it up. Do you eat It hot or wait put it in fridge?
I have eaten lunch meat all through my pregnacy. I just heat it up first, and definitely I don't eat at a deli. I just eat it at home were can heat it up:-)
I've been eating it and everything is fine. I ate it all the time with my first too, no problems whatsoever. I'm in the UK, and we're advised that pre-packed meats like ham, corned beef etc are fine due to the process they go through to prevent bacteria. The only thing I don't eat is dry cured meats like pepperoni, chorizo and salami (unless cooked) because they're fermented. The advice I was given was that if I didn't want to cook these cured meats before eating then to freeze them for four days as freezing kills any parasites and makes them safer to eat :)
My OB told me I could have lunch meat as long as it's fresh. So I've only been eating it the day I buy it or a day or too after
I ate sandwhiches when i was pregnant with my daughter and i am now 32 weeks with a boy. Both babies have been fine lol. My dr has never said not to eat sandwhich meat.
Been eating it and I'm 32 weeks!
I've eaten cold sandwiches all through all 3 of my pregnancies. My doctors never told me otherwise lol
I get subway all the time.... I just get them to toast it so that it is heated for me.
Ive ate during entire pregnancy!
Thank you all so so much for your input and advice! I really appreciate it!
Listeria can be found in fresh produce such as your fruits and veggies and in alot of other foods such as lunch meat. This is my third pregnancy and this listeria scare was not around with my other two children. We can't not eat,but with all the scare tactics it's any wonder we can eat at all. talk to your doctor find out their recommendations. My doctor said lunch meat is fine as long as it is heated.
I eaten a fair amount of lunch meat through my pregnancy. I'm almost 38 weeks and my baby is fine
Yes there are risks. Listeria can kill an unborn baby. That being said, you have to decide which risks you are comfortable with.
Starryeyes I like your post spot on. That's why you find a dr. you are comfortable with because they need to be in line with your own opinion and beliefs. Like anything with pregnancy you assume the risk as much as you want to.
I eat cold salami with cheese here and there. Prob once or twice a week. New age doctors and research will tell you it needs to be heated to avoid any chance of bacteria. I was talking to my grandma about things you shouldn't eat while pregnant and she said "honey, you eat whatever feels right. If you feel good eating it, then it's fine!" Well she is 85 though and she is old school. But back in the day people didn't worry about all the things we do now a days. I think moderation is key.
Wow I eat subway all the time I'm abit worried is that like an american rule because no 1 told me over here not to eat sandwich meat I'm nearly 18 weeks too!!
I eat lunch meat all the time I just heat it up. I am 38+4days and have not had any problems with it.
I'm 35 wks and I've had a few turkey sandwiches here and there..always used fresh sliced lunchmeat though, nothing that has been sitting in a bag in a fridge
Cold lunch meat can grow listeria (I think that's the one) which can cause problems for the baby. It's not recommended to eat cold lunch meat in an effort to avoid getting the bacteria but I'mssure it's like most other things, some doctors will say it's ok in moderation, other will say to heat it up first to kill any bacteria and still others will say avoid it all together. I would suggest that you contact your doctor and do your own research and form your own opinion based on what you feel is right for you.
I was also told no lunch meat. But I just make sure to get quality meats and eat at reputable places. And I try to only eat sandwiches once a week or so.
I was never told not to eat cold meats.... never heard of that. The doctor told me no microwave meals or shell fish and also to make sure eggs where we'll cooked along with fish. But as for cold meats they're fine.
I have one once in a while but not often and my doctor said to get it freshly cut not the ones that sit in the case for a while because the bacteria can harm the baby. Most people will probably be fine eating lunch meat but there is a chance that it can harm the baby so why take the chance.
You can eat sandwiches without meat...haha just do tons of veggies and smears and cheese! Yummy! Or try veggie patties. ..I love them!!
