Metformin and Pregnancy

Hi guys i've been ttc for a year since my last miscarriage and last week I took a pregnancy test and it came back positive!! I'm very scared because I don't want to have another miscarriage... I have cramps and I don't know if that is normal on pregnancy or not! and my doctor told me to keep taking metformin... Is anyone there taking metformin? Do you think is going to harm my baby? Thanks a lot for your help

I have currently been on met for 7 months now and nothing. the clomid gave me a very large cyst on my right ovary and am now trying clomid for the second time since cyst shrank. I felt a little sharp pain on left side about where ovary is and i though oh no not another cyst. Doc says he thinks its ovulation but no way to tell right now, who knows...I hope so and hopefully we can get pregnant soon. Any ideas or advice??? Wish us luck.

My endocrinologist wanted me to be on it for my first trimester, but he said while there's evidence that it's safe, there's been no study that proves it because people are too hesitant to enter medical studies while pregnant. I didn't stay on it, because I had concerns about the safety, and the information I found online was contradicting. I am now 16 weeks pregnant with no problems so far other than the morning sickness. Good luck.

CoastGuard - My endocrinologist said if you're ovulating regularly on Metformin, there's no need for Clomid, as the only reason you'd take Clomid is if you're not ovulating. Clomid only forces you to ovulate.

Ok so I am new too all of this and am very confused and frustrated. I have a period naturally in August 2006 then I didn't have any until I was given provera to force it out and that happened in January 2007. I just had another one in early july. I have been on metformin for four months before this period. My doc took me off it and then i started the period but then she put me back on met. I really don't think i obvulated this time but we are trying to concieve. I am really upset about this whole ordeal. I have been told that I have PCOS and then i was put on met. does any one know the chance of pregnancy or if i should take to my doc about clomid or something. we really would like to concieve. also how long did it take for everyone here to get pregnant or who has PCOs, etc

Thank

Kelly- You know I will! I e-mailed you back last night too.'

babyhopes79- Cramping in early pregancy is normal. I had them for a few weeks. I still get them from time to time. My dr put me on Met for PCOS. But I have not been constipated! how long have you been on met? You are just about 5 weeks. You count weeks from your last menstral period to find out how far along you are.

Hahaha Don't laugh at me but what is OPK? Hahaha so sorry! My periods were very irregular... I had to wait 3 months after my mc to get one and then my doc put me on prometrium and clomid so I had my period and then I had to wait 2 months to get it and he put me on prometrium and a double dosage of clomid... So I don't know how many days between af!! This is so complicated!

You count how many days from af to af. Were you charting or keeping track of your cycles at all? I was charting so after I was on Met, they were 28-30 days long. Bu before they were 32-36 days long. Were you using OPKs at all?

Thanks!! I have my first appt August 24... I hope I am 8 weeks bc if you are early they make you come back and the wait its just horrible! My last period started on June 27 but I don't know how to calculate how many weeks I am! So im still going to take the metformin... Did your doc gave you that bc of PCOS? Is it normal that im cramping a little bit?
Thanks and congrats on your baby as well!!!

I am on metformin and am 9w 2d. I have been on it since March (I got a bfp June 26) and my dr is keeping me on it for the first trimester. She said there is some research that it helps prevent miscarriage, but it definately won't hurt anything. I also had a previous m/c so she did an u/s at 6w 4d and we saw the hb! I have my first prenatal appt today. I am sorry for your loss and congrats on your bfp!
