Mid-Wife? 2

Sorry wouldn't let me comment in that thread anymore.  Unfortunately the US doesn't have the same rules in every state...it really bothers me.  So in both California and WA to what midwives and naturopath have told me, midwives cannot work with ppl with previous csection per state regulations.  Just like in WA a naturopath can be your primary caregiver but in California you must go to a doctor for things like shots.  Very silly as my naturopath solved problems for me that perplexed my doctor.  But I paid for my naturopath completely out of pocket. My insurance said they would cover 70% but then everytime I tried to claim my money back they denied me.  My husband and I pay extra for non hmo insurance but since the new health plan it just doesn't seem to help.  Also I two years ago was covered as much as my husband and kids but now I am barely covered at all so our out of pocket deductible max is $6,500 and my insurance won't really pay for me until we hit that and unfortunately I  was pregnant for two fiscal year times...and for midwives my insurance will never cover more than a certain percentage even if I pass my max deductible. Ugh...tho I think hospital midwives are different for some reason.
Also the state I live in midwifery is very popular and therefore they can charge a lot bc ppl will pay for it.  I am sure if I knew where to look I could find cheaper ones as I know some women without insurance went the midwife route.  But all my in-network ones are the posh ones lol.  And I only looked so into it as I kept being told they couldn't work with csection patients and my sister had to go to a hospital in the end with her midwife and they were very happy when she was able to avoid csection as they said now she can come back to them next time.

Oh that is good to know. I didnt know you could have a separate company bill your insurance...I wonder if that would help with my naturopath problems.  Ya I cant believe how doctors compete with midwives and naturopaths.  Our primary care doctors dont know we also see naturopaths.  I was advised not to tell them.  Its so silly.  I do wish I had gone to a midwife my first time around as I know I never would have had a csection.   I was scared into them by doctors telling me my babies were too big for me.  But I just honestly and embarrassingly didnt know it was an option.  My mom just gave me an ob and told me to go to her for it...so I did.  I am really happy with my doctor now but my mom always just had me lookat the school they graduated from instead of at the whole picture of what they believe in when it comes to birth.  My ob now is much more relaxed and midwife like but you know will still turn to a csection faster at least at this point with my background. I also found the hospital with the lowest csection rate.

That's crazy.  I'm actually surprised California is so strict.  You'd think they let you get weed prescriptions from Doctor 420 for a headache but they make it tougher to get a vbac with a midwife.

As far as my insurance goes, I went through a separate billing organization that codes everything for insurance to pay.  If I called my insurance and said i was having a homebirth or midwife they'd most likely flag my account.  It's what they do.  They get more money from hospital births bc of the interventions and medications.  So, I was advised to let the billing company handle insurance.

I'm in Texas and this is my first baby but my midwife experience has been soooo relaxed.  I do know though that if you mention anything about a midwife to your primary obgyn (like the one you go to for annuals) they will refuse you as a patient for anything else in the future.  It's ridiculous.  It's like a competition between the two.  But just because someone chooses midwife doesn't mean that obstetricians are not necessary... So I don't know why they throw hissy fits and blacklist patients so readily.  My obgyn doesn't even know I'm pregnant.  And I guess she will only find out after I've had the baby and go for my yearly pap.
