A mucus plug is exactly what the name implies-- a plug made out of mucus to protect the uterus from harmful bacteria or substances that might harm the baby. :) I believe it plugs the cervix?

I believe I lose mine every time the hubby and I practice our babymaking. If I remember right (or did the right research during my last pregnancy), a mucus plug can be lost and reform itself multiple times during a pregnancy. Don't quote me on that though--I would definitely recommend consulting Google ;)

What's a mucus plug? I'm 18 weeks pregnant & I've not heard of it until now!
