I took it because I wanted the extra ultrasound to see my LO, well I ended up getting results that said I had an extremely high chance of my baby girl having Downs and they wantes to do an amnio. We said no because we didn't think the risks were worth it. We ended up having a perfectly healthy baby girl so I stressed and got upset for no reason! My advice is, if you plan on loving your LO no matter what and feel that you can handle having a child with special needs (which is something that can happen to anyone!) then I'd pass on the test just for peace of mind. I can't tell you how many girls I've seen in this forum that have had false positives!

I didn't take it. It has a fairly high false positive rate (40 or 60%) and I know from family history health and age that I'm low risk anyhow so I didn't see the advantage in it for myself. However the test is completely harmless to you and your baby so there is nothing wrong with taking it if it makes you feel better. If it does show any possible risk then they will do more specfic testing to find out for certain.

That sounds like the blood test they give to check your chances of having a child with trisomy 21 (Downs syndrome) which is when the baby has three chromosomes, instead of the normal two,  in the 21st pair.
I had the check done. Its a pretty routine blood test. In the results they will give you a percentage out of 100 of how high your chances are to have a child with downs.
There are no garuntees even after they give you the results. A high risk isn't the end of the world. I have an uncle who has Downs and although he is different he is a valued member of our family and we wouldn't change him for the world.
Basically the point of the test is so that your doctors and you will be better prepared if your child does have Downs.
Best wishes for you and baby!
