Natural Birth

Hi all!
I've made the decision at the start of my pregnancy that I was going to give birth naturally w/out any medication.

I'm 26 weeks now.

I get a lot of support from my fiance and family, but I also have a lot of people trying to steer me away from the idea. I'm very firm with my decision and would like a little feedback. This is my 1st baby and I want to be prepared..

I attended a class at Babies R Us about baby basics, and the instructor was telling me the Lamaze classes at the hospital would only cover birthing with the medications and not with out.

She insisted I paid for her class instead because she covers natural birth. I was really set on the hospital class to be able to tour the hospital and get to know the staff. I was hoping to explain to them my birthing plan and get insite on it.
Now I'm not so sure...

Feedback?

I just had my first baby on the 16th and I went all natural I took birthing classes to help learn breathing techniques the class I took covered everything from natural to medicated it even talked about the downside to having medicated births I did alot of research and to me going all natural was the best choice I didn't want any harm to come to my baby since it was my first I got to the hospital when I was 6 centimeters I was in active labor for 13 hours and I had my beautiful prince out in 3 pushes I personally didn't think it was as bad as alot of women put it off to be I would call your hospital and ask them what the lamaze class covers most talk about natural and medicated research everything watch videos ask about other women's birth have a strong labor team my husband was absolutely amazing he made me feel strong when I was feeling weak I never walked out of a hospital so proud than the day I gave birth my nurses were saying how inspirational I was I felt so empowered I do agree with an above poster let them know at the hospital that you want to go natural but you want medication on standby in case you need it and don't feel bad if you do need it just stay strong and stand by your birthing choice don't let anyone choose anything for you

I was induced with my 1st I asked for the epidural right away baby any I were fine the entire time. With my second I was already fully dialated by the time I got to the hospital so couldn't get it, I was in labor from 6 am and at 12 am they decided for a c section due to some complicateions. A year later I had my 3rd via VBAC and no pain meds mostly because they were trying to push me into another c section and I was 100% against having another one. The year after that I delivered my 4th with no medications and here I am 3 years later with my 5th and in a new state and doctors are trying to push me into a c section because I jade one 5 years ago! I plan on staying home until the baby is practically falling out! Stick to your guns about what you want!

I WANT to go natural but its like the experienced moms ...you don't know if you can handle the pain or not or what kind of problems will pop up...but I've heard it's better without...hopefully we can make it!

I think the best thing is to have an open mind. My plan was to have a natural birth however when I got to 7-8 cm the pain was so intense I opted gor a spinal (our hospital doesn't do epidurals) it wore off after a couple of hours but it gave me some rest before I had to start pushing, which for me was 2 1/2 hours worth.

The lamaze class at our hospital went over all methods and my teacher seemed to actually push for no meds.

Don't feel bad if you change your mind and awesome if you can do it without meds.

Do the class at the hospital, they will probably cover non medicated births too. (Mine did.) The instructor at the store was honestly just trying to scare you so you would pay for her class.

Also, please please please be open to the possibility that you may need or want medications during labor. And that is okay. Don't let anyone tell you differently. I went into my (unplanned) induction wanting no meds. No pain drugs, no epidural, no nothing. But after 20+ hours of constant contractions and bad back labor I needed a break so I asked for an epidural. My body was so exhausted and mentally I needed a break. And I am so glad I did. It allowed me to sleep for a few hours and helped me reset for the next 10 hours. I did what my body needed and I am not a failure for it.

I had two natural births. They are way better for recovery.

I hope you get a natural birth as you desire. Just remember sometimes things change that are out of your control. Go in open to doing whatever is the best option to keep you and baby healthy. I had to have an emergency c section due to my placenta abrupting. I don't feel like any less of a mom because we both could have died if I wouldn't have. This time I have a scheduled c section and am perfectly content bc I have a risk of abrupting again

My friend did both classes and said she found it worthwhile to get the natural birth outlook as well as the 'tour' on medicated birth should something go wrong and just to get familiar with the hospital. I birthed at home so had no need of hospital classes, just the natural one, but I think if I had been at hospital I'd have gone to their classes too just to feel comfortable and more at home there.

And don't let people steer you away from what is shown by research to be overall the best mode of birth (natural) and which delivers the best health outcomes for both you and baby. It's like someone steering you off a good diet and exercise because they think it will be too hard for you (that's their opinion, not yours!) - and it might be too hard, but your chances of success are much higher going in if you're mentally prepared and confident in yourself rather than doubting yourself and listening to the haters!

When I had my first baby, I had said from the beginning that I wanted to deliver natural without any meds. But I asked to leave the option open if I were to change my mind......and I'm glad I did. I went as long as I could but I ended up needing the epidural and I was very thankful for it lol. So maybe u should go in there with the mind set that u r going to deliver natural and just know u have the option to change your mind if need be. Just let ur doctor know that u want the option.

I had my 1st two completely natural. By the time I arrived to the hospital I was 8-9cm and delivered about 20 mins later. I didn't think it was painful it just felt like intense pressure. I'm scared this time because idk if this time the contractions will hurt but I think I'm more afraid of a needle in my back lol. Stick to your plan and be strong you can do it. And I had my 1st at 16 my 2nd at 21 and now I'm 25 pregnant with my 3rd.

My hospital covered all types of births including natural which I want as well. The instructor was very supportive and said just make your wishes clear. I think it depends on the hospital but it is your body and you need to stick up for yourself and your baby. Good luck!

I heard the Bradley method is great too. I'm planning to get the book as well. I'm also planning for a natural birth VBAC (vaginal birth after csection).

I always get the epidural.. I've only had vaginal deliveries n I still remember everything that goes on. I don't mind the drugs. I don't feel drowsy no side effects afterwards n no complications with my kids either. For me, I just don't see the benefits of dealing with all the pain when I have never had any complications by not feeling the pain.  Well u still feel some with the meds also. Just not the same intensity

Some one suggested to me the Bradley method. I got the book from barns and Noble. I would have liked a class but there are none close to me.

This is also my first pregnancy. I'll be 26weeks Thursday and I'm planning all natural birth as well. I'm going to a birthing center. I'm afraid hospitals will push for what they think is best. They could end up giving you pitocin and other things so they can have your baby out when they want to. I work at a natural food store so I get a lot of support. But some people tell me I dont have to be wonder woman. I'll be nice and relaxed where  going and I'll be using the rub too for a water birth.

I think you should keep with your commitment to wanting a natural birth.  I wanted one and did great all day until they had to do a c section.  Being drugged was very disappointing to me so stick to your guns and do what u feel is right
