Neurologist prescribed me a class c drug...

I've been having killer migraines/headaches. I answered all of the drs questions best I could. She prescribed me Propanolol and ordered a sleep study and all kinds of other things.
I asked her about the risks involved. She knew I was pregnant. She said "minimal"...
Then when I went to pick it up...the pharmacist asked if I had ever taken it before I said no.He asked me if I had migraines I Mentioned only since being pregnant etc...
He said" who would prescribe this to you pregnant!? What trimester are you in?" I told him second and he informed that its one of the only drugs thats ok in the 1st trimester but not after...
I bought the pills anyway it was only $4. I haven't taken em.
So I said Im not taking these until I talk to my ob. I had talked to a midwife who could only say "obviously she felt the risk was acceptable..." refering to the neurologist.

So I still wasn't convinced.... still gonna ask at my next appt.

But then I was hit with a REALLY bad headache. Tears, nausea,dizziness... I was so tempted to pop one it was so bad. I didn't. I just laid down in the dark, drank water.... waited it out...

Has anyone had any experience with this?

Feel free to google the full list of side effects and risks of Propanolol. But a fewI can recall are low birth weights, growth retardation, small placentas....

Has anyone taken this drug?

Believe me sweety I know. If anything I would go with the fiorocet.  Try ice on ur head while u are lying down. Do a diet/migraine log. Even log weather and environment. U may be able to find triggers to stay away from. I know caffine is supposed to be a no no but try some tea or coffee with tylenol...caffine can help. Caffine can also be a trigger. Chocolate too. Oh and artificial sweeteners...they kick my butt and they are one of the #1 causes of migraines. Just food for thought.

I have had severe migraines for the past few years. I was on gabipenton(sp?) As a preventative until I found out I was pregnant. My neurologist tooke off of it immediately. He said that there are not preventatives out there that are safe. I also took fiorocet when a migraine was coming on he said I could take it on occasion but he didnt recommend it more than one or twice a month...never in the same week.  Fortunately I have had to take it maybe 2 times since I found out and I am 26 weeks. It is weird pregnancy is having the opposite effect on me. Good luck! I hope u feel better.

I took an anti nausea medicine with a side effect of helping migraines called reglan. I was in your same exact boat. I never had a migraine til I got pregnant. I spent my time wearing sunglasses indoors.

I haven't but my doctor prescribed me Fioricet for my migraines and said it was fine in second and third trimester. My pharmacist also told me should be fine but just to take it as needed. I also went all over the internet talking to ladies that have taken it and all said their babies were fine and had no side affects. So i would call your dr. And ask to be prescribed fioricet instead. It works great for me! Good luck!
