No insurance

I currently have no insurance. I live in Illinois now but plan on moving back to Michigan to be around my family. Is anybody familiar with where I should try and purchase insurance? confused about where to set up ob appointments and how to to start this journey.

First time mom to be. 7weeks.

If you hire a midwife, and choose self-pay because you don't have insurance, sometimes you can get a discount.  It's only $4000 total cost... So, self-pay, cash you can probably hire a midwife for $2000 or $3000.  She does all your prenatal care, delivery and cares for the newborn afterwards.  Even if you are moving you can probably talk to one midwife in your current state and see if she will let you pay just for a few prenatal visits and then transfer your care to another in your new state? It's just an option if you can't get insurance bc I think a hospital vaginal birth is anywhere from $10,000-$20,000... I'm sure the more interventions they give the more expensive the bill gets too (c-section, anesthesia, epidural, pitocin. Etc...)

Yes you will have to get state insurance. Private insurance will not pick you up if you are already pregnant. I quit my job in Oct. to go back to school full time. My plan was to get private ins and just pay out of pocket for it but once I found out I was expecting I couldn't get any ins companies to pick me up so I had no choice but to go through dhs.
