Paid family leave

Are there any moms that had  worked in California and received PFL during her maternity leave?? I want to know your experience... I know they pay you up to 3 months but after that there is another program called "baby bonding time" that can pay you up another extra 3 months, I believe those extra 3 months have to be paid back when you do your taxes, but you get to spend more time with your newborn baby.... Has anyone done or heard or this before?

I work for the GOD I filled out my FMLA back in September, but I am not due until November I start my Leave in November and they gave me 8 weeks for a C section, but I requested an additional 4 weeks for bonding time so a total of 12 weeks.  I get paid for all 13 weeks because of my accrued Annual Leave accrued Sick Leave I saved.

I live in CA and this is what I get: 4 weeks before for disability: 6-8 weeks after for my recovery through disability ( 6 for vaginal,  8 for c section).  Then 6-12 weeks of PFL and baby bonding time.  This buffs out to 4 weeks before and 4 mo after (the last 6 weeks will be unpaid).  I will then have 2 remaining weeks and this can be used anytime in the first year of babies life, so I'm taking those 2 weeks when he's 6 mo old to fly home to visit family.

Do you get the same amount of money for disability than for PFL?

Canada is sounding pretty good right about now! I'm 38 + 1 and STILL working my lil tooshie off! I don't want to take any time off before the baby is born because I know that I only have 6 wks to bond before I can't afford to. Disability is only a portion of what you usually make. Taking THAT into consideration... I don't think that I'll be able to financially take the 6 wks off! SO frustrating...

But you can always talk to your doctor and see if they can work with you to keep you out on disability longer then the 8 weeks.

When you go on pregnancy disability leave in ca. You get paid disability starting 36 weeks. And if you have vaginal delivery you get paid up to 6 weeks after or 8 for c section. After that ca disability sends you paperwork to transition you into paid family leave which is 6 weeks after that. All of that time your job is safe.

Crazy !!?? Only 3 months . I'm really glad I live in Canada we get a year paid maternity leave to spend time with your newborn. I've already been off for a month, which gave me time to get everything ready and relax / de stress before baby comes,
That really ***** ladies :(

You can get PFL as long as you have paid in to state disability insurance. But that doesn't guarantee your employer will hold you position while you are on disability. FMLA is the law that would require that and you have to be with your employer for a year to qualify.

I know you have to be in a job for at least 6 months to qualify for unemployment, I am not sure how long to qualify for PFL. But there are only 5 states that have PFL and California is one of them

I've been meaning to ask about PFL and unpaid FL. What if you have been with the company for 5/6 months prebaby, I'm starting a new job soon and due March so will I still get PFL or anything like that?
