Pregnancy & Weight Loss Surgery

I had weight loss surgery (gastric sleeve) 7 months ago and recently found out I am 9 weeks pregnant. The doctor wants my to triple my food intake which I'm not sure is possible. Has anyone else become pregnant after WLS?

I think that is the problem---  my friend that has gastric bypass has liquids of any sort also completely limited.  She is to not have anything to drink with her meals and things like that as they encourage you to use food for nutrition. Liquid has that volume factor of filling the container it is in so if you have limited space, there is something about using liquid.  some science equation stuff.  (not my thing).  But definitely ask your doctor about the supplementation with juicing and vitamin mixes.  I do think it comes down to a space issue with gastric bypass.  Liquid can be tricky.

Oh gosh, that's sure a tricky question.  Sadly, I think the procedure can be burdened by food intake and the stomach will stretch.  And then you DO need the extra food intake for a healthy pregnancy (eating for two and all).  Ugh, that is a conundrum.  I think it is possible to eat the food and your stomach will stretch.  And then perhaps you will go back to the eating habits pre baby and be able to maintain the weight again.  Can you talk to the office that performed the gastric bypass?  Working with them AND your ob may be the best thing.  good luck

No personal experience but I know a few Mom's have supplemented with liquids - such as a green smoothie to get more nutrition in to support baby. Because your stomach is now so much smaller you will have to be creative and really focus on high quality nutrition at every snack / meal. I'm sure you already have some experience but just be careful!  And congrats!
