Pregnancy and cats...

I heard that cats aren't good to be around while pregnant. Is it the litter box?  The pee and  feces or both? What happens if there's strong odors in the house??? A bit worried here, where I stay there are 2 kittens in the process of being litter box trained.

I had three cats all throughout my first and second pregnancies. As long as you dont change the litter box you and your baby will be fine!  I hated when people asked me if I was getting rid of my cats because I was pregnant. After the baby is born the cats were more scared and curious than anything.  Its more of an old wives tale to keep cats away from babies. I personally would be and am scared of dogs around my infant and small children.

Oh,  wow lots of info. Thanx. We're trying to get rid of them now. Idk if it's just me or what but the odor seems soooo horrid. I can't stand it.

If your cat is odious or you have a lot of neighborhood cats that use your gardens as their box, keep away from doing any weed pulling. It's mostly the outdoor cats that carry so it'd your cat is indoor always and only they should be okay. But still don't change the box just in case.

Cat feces CAN (not all do) contain toxoplasmosis which is why you shouldn't change or touch cat poop. If you have had cats before you'be probably been exposed to it before but pregnant women are more susceptible to toxoplasmosis. As long as you dont change litter or pick up poop, you'll be fine. I have 2 cats and so far at 37 weeks baby is healthy in there :-)

I had 2 cats before I was pregnant and during my pregnancy and I stayed away from the litter box. Because of their feces .
They can have a dangerous virus that can cause harm to your you and your baby.
We ended up giving rid of our cats because I started getting allergies towards them.

It's the litter box. They suggest that you do not change the kitty litter.

Also when the little one is here make sure the cat doesn't sleep in the same bedroom as the baby. Cats like to cuddle and there have been incidents of them suffocating babies. So get a good monitor keep the doors shut.
