Pregnant with a low uterus?

Hi all,

Have a question.  I am almost done with my 16th week of being pregnant.  However 2 nights ago I started having some cramps that would go from the groin and then left to right.  (no blood).  I went to the doctor the next morning and they did an US and baby is doing just fine, saw it moving very active, but doc said something about the uterus being a little too low.  I am advised to be on bed rest of 1 week and was given some medication to relax on the cramping.

I guess my question is am I likely going to lose this baby with a low uterus? Any advise would help!

Hi,

I think I might have the same problem.  I don't know if this might help but some people told me that it you have a low uterus, you can try to prop your feet up and place pillows on your lower back - this is what I am trying to do lately.  Of course, less strenuous activities would help also.  My mom also had the same case before and did this and i guess it worked for her since she gave birth to 5 kids. =)

Hi Mommies!
Ok, so for the past two or three months ive been having braxton hicks contrations, been to L&D twice now and gave me medicine to relax my uturus. But lately well the past few days I can feel my baby move really low, I mean REALLY low to the point where I cant breath because I start to cramp and get hot flashes. Im getting the contrations every 10 min and when standing every 5-2 mins. Ive asked all my friends, and they say to just keep relaxing its "normal" but to feel my baby move so close to where she's going to pop out is normal?!?  and also the cramping on the top of my belly and in the middle. Egh I just want so decent answers before I head to the hospital and get emarresed because im just in a panic. im 31 weeks pregnant and this is my first.
Any Advice?!?

I've had all the same issues and have 4 beautiful daughters :O)  Diet really helps with the polycystic ovaries.  If you are overweight, get the weight off.  Low-carb diet worked beautifully for me and I have kept it off.  I miscarried between my 1st and 2nd daughters.  Had trouble getting pregnant after the miscarriage and was on Clomid to get pregnant with my 2nd daughter.  2 yrs later had a grapefruit sized dermoid cyst on my right ovary that had to be removed (lost the ovary as well).  Husband wasn't very patient in the 'no sex' department and before I'd even had 1 full cycle after surgery discovered I was pregnant with 3rd daughter.  Lots of cysts and pain for years following and then decided to try again (8 years later) and successfully had daughter number 4!  Since there were SO many years between daughters 3 and 4, we thought we would have another a few years ago and have had 2 miscarriages.  We have decided to stop.  Have had a tipped uterus that continues to fall making back pain unbearable at times.  I am blessed and greatful for the 4 I have.  I was told 25 years ago that I might not be able to have children at all...  don't believe everything you hear :O)

Yes I had the pain the entire pregnancy once my uterus dropped.  It hurt so bad to walk.  I was young at the time and did not understand fully that I was not to be walking around that much.  It caused me a lot of groin pain and I started with the brachen hicks(sp) contractions very early they say because of that. But I wouldn't worry too much about it.  If you take care of yourself and you go to the doctor regularly then things sshould be okay.  I had my daughter 4 weeks early, however I was already dilated at 28 weeks unrelated to the uterus.  She is now going to be 10 years old.  She was healthy when she was born.  So don't worry.  With this pregnancy I have had lots of complications but this time around I had cervical cancer and just had surgery on my cervix and they removed part of it.  So now I will add that problem to my tilted uterus which hopefully does not drop anymore.  I will need to go in around another 2-3 months to have my cervix stiyched.  Sounds painful to me.  But I am a strong person.  Just think positive about everything and it will be okay.  Don't focus on the one problem because then you will just drive yourself crazy like I am doing now.  I am going to be 10 weeks in a few days and still at risk for a miscarriage.  I plan on having this child on my own because the father of it and I are no longer together but his family is so supportive.  I am still good friends with his sister, so I know I will be okay.  I wish you the best New year.  Keep in touch and let me know how things go.  My e-mail address is ***@****

Thanks for writing back cowgirl.  I did call my doc yesterday just to get a better understanding and she said yes the uterus is low and based on the ultrasound its sitting rite on top of my bladder and making me go to the bathroom more often.
I started feeling a dull ache yesterday evening and took the medicine that the doc prescribed to relax the uterus.  Did you get any wierd pain/cramps when your uterus was low? I just hate the fact that I may have to be on medication for the rest of the pregnancy.

Thanks!

Hello everyone,
You know i really need your advice.Sorry for being so direct on this but I'm just worried my situation.I am a first time pregnant and yesterday was my 4th times to visit to the Doctor and do scanning everytime I went there. After the scan yesterday I'm very upset to hear the Doctor says"he can't see any development of the sac,it might caused of miscarriage. He can see the membrane but supposedly He can able to see the shadow which form into a baby coz its 5 weeks already.
Yah,I did have spotting for 2 times but only a little a mount of blood which was brown color..its like one drop in my underwear..thats it.My question is,:Is it possible that my pregnancy wont success?Does the statement of the Doctor is really true?
Please i need your advice,my husband and I are supposedly very happy when we found that I'm pregnant.

When your utuerus drops it stays dropped.  So no it does not go back.  It will most likely tilt as well later on.  You will notice the muscle pain will get worse the further and bigger you get. It's nothing that you did it's just how your body is.  Just be careful.  I am pregnant with my second pregnancy and I have had lots of complications.  I am only 9 weeks soon to be 10wks.  I am already showing and went to buy maternity clothes today. So far so good. But again my uterus is tilted and will drop sooner than normal pregnancies. This will be my last pregnancy.  The more pregnancies you have the more at risk you are to have a collapsed uterus.  This you do not want.  That is if that was what your doctor was meaning by a low uterus.  Meaning it has dropped already.
Good luck to you~

Thanks for the follow-up cowgirl.  At least I feel better that I am not alone out there with this issue.  Were you told if this is something that just spontaneously happens? Or is it caused by something that the mother would have done?

Ya walking is down to a minimal now.  Do you know if the uterus will go back up? Or is this something that will stay throughout the course of the pregnancy?

Thanks!

I think that if you take it easy and try not to do too much walking.  With my first child I had that and it caused a lot of groin pain and down the leg. Not only was my uterus low but my pelvic bones were also seperating. I would just try not to do a lot of walking and see how that goes.  Bedrest is probably a precaution.  I know with my utuerus being that low it caused me not only the pain but I also started dilating early as well.  I was 4 1/2 cm dilated at 28 weeks. So be careful. Also with intercourse you need to be careful as well cause that will cause cramping. Because of how low the uterus is.
