This is my first pregnancy, I am about 4 weeks along, is it safe to get foil highlights in my hair? I keep getting different answers? I hear its ok since the hair is wrapped in foil?

I am a hairdresser and tell all my clients to wait to do highlights until your 1st trimester is over. Even though it doesn't touch your scalp you  don't want to be around it in the most delicate time in your pregnancy. And then if you want to do an all over color thst touches your scalp, it is recommended to wait until 24wks.

My doctor told me only highlights because the color does not hit the root of the hair

You can as long as you're in a well ventilated area. If the fumes are intense, it's not ventilated enough. With that said, it IS recommended to wait until the second trimester. Right now incredibly delicate and viral changes are occurring and any chemical exposure that isn't necessary should be limited. Very little dye/chemical is absorbed through the scalp when dyeing, but still - if you can wait, I would.

I got highlights last week at 11w and we were all talking about how I was pregnant. The hair stylists didn't say it was bad. And with my first born I dyed my hair the whole pregnancy and he was fine
