I was 30 weeks and at the dr for an NST. I was on my back as usual. ..then I passed out. I'm 25 weeks now and fine. Just be careful :)
The reason they not to sleep on your back during the second and third trimester is because the weight of your growing uterus presses on the vena cava- the large vein that carries blood from your legs and feet beck to your heart. It can cause you to get dizzy ams can also interfere with the amount of blood flow to the placenta- causing a deficit in the amount of oxygen and nutrients the baby is getting. They recommend the left side the most because it provides optimal circulation. But either side is okay. You can also prop with pillows under your back to help.
I'm 24 weeks today @Eevee_moon
How far along are you? It's not ideal I lay on my side put a pillow and then lean on it.. is that cheating..
Since I started having back aches due to my bed being so soft, the only comfort I had was sleeping on my back. I asked my Dr, about it and she said I can sleep however I want, which is usually on my back and then I turn to my side's and on my back again. I'm 25 wks and I can feel baby getting comfortable everytime I switch positions, so I know he's fine.
My Dr said not to. She said if I can't get comfortable any other way than to put a pillow under me to tilt my body to the side a bit. I'm 31 weeks and sleep pretty comfortably when I do that.
Everything you read says no back sleeping, but I also read something that it's highly unlikely you'd be on your back long enough to cause issues- I lay on my back to read before bed and most people move during the night so I'd say it depends who you ask...
